Newcastle United will become the latest team to try and stop Arne Slot’s runaway train of a Liverpool side in their tracks as they welcome the Reds to St James’ Park on Wednesday night (19:30, Amazon Prime). Eddie Howe’s men haven’t won either of their last two outings so will hope for a famous night under the lights here, while Liverpool are now the odds-on favourites to win the Premier League title.

They beat Manchester City last time out and will hope to extend their lead at the top heading into a jam-packed festive period. To get you in the mood for this one, below you can find my Newcastle United vs Liverpool Bet Builder tips.

Liverpool to win

Backing Liverpool to win this game won’t come as a big surprise. They’ve won 11 of their 13 Premier League matches so far this season and Slot has - well, slotted into the club perfectly. The transitional phase that seems to haunt some managers simply hasn’t existed and that is credit to the work he and his players have done in these first few months.

Liverpool quite enjoy playing away from home, and have won five and drawn one of their league matches on the road so far. Meanwhile, having beaten Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, Newcastle have disappointed in their last two games, losing to West Ham and drawing with Crystal Palace. There’s a lot of quality in this Newcastle squad and the crowd will be up for it, in what I believe to be a bigger test for Liverpool than the one they overcame on Sunday. I think they can pass it though, and get another three points on the board.

Mohamed Salah to score

Another obvious pick, but one we have to back. Salah may still be waiting on a contract offer from the club, and this is looking increasingly likely to be his last season wearing the famous red shirt, but he’s proving his worth with every performance. After his penalty against City, he has now scored 11 goals in 13 games this term, while he is also registering a healthy amount of shots.

He’s fired in 43 shots in total this season, with 26 of those on target. If he can keep that average up away at Newcastle, I think he should find the net again. Newcastle didn’t register a shot on target at Palace in midweek, and I think Salah can get them on the counter-attack as they look to push forward in this home match. He’s got eight goals in 15 total matches against Newcastle in his career, but hasn’t scored in his last five visits to St James’ Park. That run ends on Wednesday night.

Joelinton and Alexis Mac Allister to get booked

I think we will be in for an extremely feisty encounter here, as the home side look to disrupt this Liverpool team. Now, both Joelinton and Alexis Mac Allister have picked up four yellow cards in the Premier League this season which means the duo are now walking the tight-rope of suspension.

However, they will have to be fairly combative to win the midfield battle, and the man in the middle - Andy Madley - doesn’t usually take too kindly to that. Madley last refereed Leicester 1-2 Chelsea, in which he handed out a total of seven yellow cards, and awarded a penalty to the away side.

Prior to that he handed out six yellows in Southampton 1-0 Everton, and he is currently averaging 4.8 cautions per game in the Premier League. Given Joelinton leads the foul count for an individual player for either of these two teams (29), and Mac Allister isn’t that far behind with 17, I think these two likely candidates for a booking could keep Madley busy.
