Two of the lowliest teams in the Australian A-League Men's meet at the McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday (KO, 08:45), as Newcastle Jets (10th) host Adelaide United (11th). Both sides arrive into this match on a seven-game winless run, and the visitors have now been caught on 19 points by bottom club Western United as the race to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon heats up.

Our Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United prediction below foresees plenty of goals, including one for a teenage superstar who can't stop making the headlines.

Team News

The hosts appear to have a full compliment to choose from again on Friday with 14-goal frontman Apostolos Stamatelopoulos - behind only Bruno Fornaroli (15) in the top scorer charts - set to lead the line again as he looks to break his barren run so far in March.

A trio of key players have returned to the Adelaide United squad for this one. Ryan Kitton and Stefan Mauk are back in following a bout of illness while Isaias has served his one-match suspension.

Jay Barnett and Josh Cavallo are still sidelined with injuries.

Match Odds

No side in the A-League Men's has collected fewer points at home this season than Newcastle Jets (10), but they are still priced up as 6/5 favourites to win on Friday. That could be down to the terrible away record of the visitors, who have picked up just four points from eight on the road - two fewer than any other club - and are 13/8 to win away for the first time since November 26.

The draw is 11/4 and both teams to score is 1/3.

Over 4.5 goals @ 9/4

The A-League Men's is a division full of goals, and these two sides are no strangers to a goalfest. Only Brisbane Roar (45) have conceded more times than the Jets (41) this season, and Adelaide United aren't too far behind on 40.

This selection has narrowly lost in two of the home side's last three, with the Jets drawing 2-2 with Perth Glory last week and seeing the same score against Macarthur FC two weeks prior. If you go back another two weeks, they were involved in a real thriller of a game with Western Sydney Wanderers, with the score finishing 3-3.

The visitors meanwhile have been involved in two matches since the start of February that have produced at least five goals - a 3-2 defeat at Wellington Phoenix on March 3, and a 3-3 draw with Perth Glory on February 9. In fact, they've been involved in six games this season that have seen the over 4.5 goals bet land - only Glory (eight) and Melbourne City (seven) have been present in more.

The last meeting between the Jets and United at this ground was an entertaining one, producing six goals in March 2023 as the visitors won 4-2, and there was also excitement in the reverse fixture this season as United won 3-1 in Adelaide.

Over 4.5 goals in Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United at 9-4

Nestory Irankunda to score anytime @ 9/5

Whether it's for his stunning strikes or reports about his attitude, the 18-year-old is rarely out the news.

It's fair to say it has been a mixed bag for Irankunda this season, whose move to Bayern Munich was confirmed earlier in the campaign. The forward has only struck three times in the A-League Men's and hasn't been a regular starter, particularly in recent weeks - his last start came on February 3.

However, he scored his first goal in just under two months as a half-time substitute in last week's 2-1 defeat to Melbourne Victory, and that should put him in the frame for a return to the first XI on Friday.

Irankunda has scored twice in his fledgling career against the Jets, both of them coming at the McDonald Jones Stadium, and he can add to that tally this week.
