Newcastle to win by 2+

Both Newcastle and Aston Villa enjoyed impressive pre-seasons, remaining unbeaten and recording some impressive wins.

They also drew with each other in a thrilling 3-3 draw in Philadelphia as part of the Premier League Summer Series.  However, there is a huge difference between a pre-season game and the opening game of the Premier League season.

Newcastle thumped Villa 4-0 in the same fixture last season, although Unai Emery was in charge of the 3-0 victory at Villa Park in the reverse fixture.

The Magpies seem to perform better at home and should receive a huge boost from playing in front of their own fans on the opening day, starting their season off with a convincing win.

Both teams to score

Saturday’s game could prove to be crucial for both sides, as I’m expecting both to be fighting it out for European qualification this season.

As mentioned, Newcastle were a real force at home last term, particularly in the first half of the season, and lost just twice in the league at St James’ Park, but I’m expecting Villa to play their part in this game too.

Villa have scored in 22 of their 24 league and cup games in 2023 and they found the net in all of their pre-season assignments. Newcastle conceded in 10 of their final 11 games last term, so I think backing both teams to score could be the way to go.

Alexander Isak to score anytime

Isak enjoyed a fairly decent opening season at St. James’ Park, especially considering he missed roughly half the season through injury. The Swedish striker scored 10 times in 17 league starts and will look to kick on during the forthcoming campaign.

Isak was instrumental towards the tail end of last season, with vital winners against the likes of Brentford and Nottingham Forest, helping Newcastle secure their place in the top four.

He also scored against Villa during pre-season in the aforementioned 3-3 draw, and he is good value to repeat the feat on Saturday.
