The biggest game in Serie A this weekend comes from Naples, where Napoli welcome Inter Milan to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday evening. This game is a 19:45 kick-off and will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports.

As always, our Serie A expert Daniele Fisichella is here with his full preview and it is fair to say, he's expecting it to be rather entertaining on the goal front...

Napoli vs Inter Milan Betting Tips:

  • Back Over 2.5 Goals @ 8/11
  • Back BTTS @ 8/13

Nine years ago, Walter Mazzarri got sacked by Internazionale and that’s when his career started to go downhill. Until three weeks ago, when Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentis, once again surprised everyone by hiring Mazzarri, who had already managed Napoli from 2009 to 2013, to replace Rudi Garcia.

The former Watford manager inherits a team that in the space of a couple of moths seems to have lost the confidence and style of play that helped them dominate Serie A last season.

Napoli are eight points behind Internazionale, after a 2-1 success in Bergamo last weekend, and, although winning the Scudetto again was always going to be a tough ask, they at least own to their fans a proper defence of the title they conquered in style after 33 years.

This will be the third away game in a row for the Neroazzurri who fell behind against both Juventus and Benfica but managed to rescue two draws. Simone Inzaghi’s team are unanimously considered the best side in Serie A but can’t rest on their laurels.

In fact by the time this game would have kicked off Juventus might have already established themselves as the new Serie A leaders.

Team News

Both Napoli’s left-backs, Mario Rui and Oliveira, are injured so centre-back Juan Jesus (a former Inter player under Mazzarri) will slot in that position as he did at the Bernabeu. The hosts are also monitoring the conditions of Zielinski who suffered a small muscular injury during the Champions League game. Last year’s top goal scorer Victor Oshimen is expected to start after making two substitute appearances against Atalanta and Real Madrid.

Having achieved qualification to the Champions League knockout stages with two matches to spare gave Simone Inzaghi the opportunity to rest some of his top players in midweek.

In fact, Inter made eight chances against Benfica from the formation that drew 1-1 with Juventus last Sunday.

The only two players not available for this match are defenders Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni as Inter will repeat the same eleven that faced Juve.

Match Odds

Serie A leaders Inter are favourite coming into this match: a win at the Maradona, something they haven’t achieved since January 2020, pays 7/5.

Perhaps that’s because of Napoli’s poor record at home this season where they have already lost three league games (against Lazio, Fiorentina and Empoli) and haven’t yet achieved a win in the Champions League.

A victory for the Scudetto holders pays 9/5 as the Partenopei have lost only one of their last six matches against the Milanese sides. The odds for the draw are 12/5: Napoli recently drew 2-2 with AC Milan as Inter have shared the spoils in three away games this season.

Over 2.5 goals @ 8/11

Napoli will certainly take heart from the fact they were able to match Real Madrid for at least 80 minutes on Wednesday. A couple of individual mistakes costed Mazzarri’s team the game but, ultimately, they seemed to have started to play with more freedom.

Players such as Kvaratskhelia, Zambo-Anguissa and Politano are more willing to try individual actions as Napoli attacked with more conviction in both games under Mazzari.

The return to full fitness of Victor Oshimen (11/8 anytime goal scorer) is a great boost as the Nigerian striker is often sharp when it comes to the big games. Last year he scored against Roma (twice), Juventus (a brace), AC Milan, Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt (home and away).

On the other hand, Napoli’s defence has been nowhere near as good as last season, they’ve only kept five clean sheets in 17 games in all competitions.

Inter have got the best attack of Serie A with 30 goals scored and this season are approaching games with a greater self-belief, thanks also to their extraordinary Champions League run in 2022/2023.

The goal they conceded against Juventus was the first time they fell behind in the league this season but they did not panic and equalized quickly afterwards thanks to a splendid team move.

Both Teams to Score Yes @ 8/13

If something can be reproached to the Neroazzuri is that despite dominating the ‘Derby d’Italia’ (where they amassed 751 passes) they produced very few scoring opportunities.

As time went on Juventus were clearly the happiest of the two sides with the draw but Inter did not take advantage. On Sunday tough, against a club like Napoli that needs the three points, Inter will have to risk more.

Serie A’s top scorer Lautaro Martinez (11/8 anytime goal scorer) only played a few minutes against Benfica, he indeed needed a rest after delivering time and time again for his club.

In fact, Lautaro’s goal against Juve was his 27th in Serie A in the calendar year, only Diego Milito in 2012 and Christian Vieri in 2001 have scored more (28) in one year.

Seven of the last 12 meetings between these two sides have seen both teams scoring at least a goal and even last season Napoli haven’t kept a single clean sheet at home against teams that finished in the top four.

This is a good opportunity to bet on Both Teams to Score and the Over 2.5 goals.
