Molde vs Shamrock Rovers Prediction: Weakened visitors look vulnerable

Shamrock Rovers became the first Irish team ever to reach the knockout stages of a European competition when reaching this play-off against Molde, but their side is a much different one to that which featured in the league phase and they look up against it in Norway.

However, since then loanees Kenny, Burns and Poom have all returned to their parent clubs and defender Neil Farrugia has also departed to join League 1 Barnsley. 

Those players accounted for seven of the 12 goals that the team scored in the league phase and they look set for a tough evening against Molde. 

The Norwegians have won four of their six European home games this term and beat these opponents home and away without conceding when the pair last met in 2022. 

Rovers have lost four of their seven away matches in Europe this season and with their star striker Kenny having returned to Celtic, they look unlikely to get on the scoresheet. 

They were beaten 4-0 by Dundalk recently and may record another defeat without scoring.

Frederik Ihler has been signed by Molde as their future star striker and was duly handed the number nine shirt. 

The Dane netted four times in 193 minutes of Conference League league phase action, an average of 1.90 goals per game. 

While he may struggle to replicate that throughout the season, it shows the abilities of the young forward and he is fancied to get on the scoresheet.
