Mansfield vs Wrexham Prediction: Hollywood ending for Red Dragons

The romance of the FA Cup rolls into Nottinghamshire on Saturday night, as Wrexham travel to the One Call Stadium, to take on Mansfield Town.

Wrexham found further fame during a memorable cup run last season but have been handed a tougher test than last year, when their First-Round opponents were National League outfit Oldham Athletic.

Mansfield are just one point and one place below Wrexham in the League Two table and will be looking to put a show on for a crowd, which bore witness to a 0-0 draw between the sides at the same venue last month.

Mansfield vs Wrexham Betting Tips

  • Wrexham to win @ 11/5
  • Total corners over 10.5 @ 5/6

Team News

Mansfield were in midweek action as they played Port Vale on Tuesday night, for the chance to progress into the Quarter-Final of the EFL Cup.

Nigel Clough named an unchanged side for that tie but the Stags' unbeaten start to the season came to an end with a 1-0 defeat.

With Wrexham well-rested this week, a point reinforced by Clough, changes could be in the offing on Saturday, though seven-goal forward Lucas Akins has been rated as unlikely to return from injury for this one.

No game in midweek hands Wrexham the opportunity to name a first-choice XI, as they bid to make their mark in the competition again.

However, there was a big injury blow earlier this week with the news that veteran striker Steven Fletcher will miss the rest of 2023, after undergoing knee surgery on Wednesday.

Wrexham are also without Eoghan O'Connell, Ryan Barnett and Jordan Tunnicliffe.

Match Odds

Mansfield 11/10, the Draw 12/5, Wrexham 11/5

Wrexham to win @ 11/5

Despite a growing injury list, Wrexham should be entering the cup with supreme confidence.

After a stuttering start to the season, the Red Dragons have really started to roar with five wins in their last six. Phil Parkinson's side are also unbeaten in their last eight and can take confidence from October's trip to the One Call Stadium, when they held Mansfield to a goalless draw, on the back of conceding eight in their last two.

A Saturday night game in front of the TV cameras is a big pull for a club looking to entertain an increasingly large worldwide following, and in Paul Mullin they have the competition's top scorer, last season.

Mullin will be licking his lips after Mansfield's exertions on Tuesday and the extra rest could hand his side the advantage this weekend.

Total corners over 10.5 @ 5/6

Goals were noticeably absent in October but it wasn't for the want of trying, as Mansfield and Wrexham earned 10 and six corners respectively.

Corners have been a frequent occurrence at the One Call Stadium this season, with this 5/6 bet winning in five of the last six games there.

The same bet has also won in seven of Wrexham's last eight games and if that wasn't enough, Wrexham (1st) and Mansfield (2nd) have won more corners than any other side in League Two this season.
