Manchester United desperately need to reverse their poor form when they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday night (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event). The Red Devils have lost each of their last three games, having been knocked out of the EFL Cup by Tottenham and then defeated in consecutive Premier League games against Bournemouth and Wolves.

Read below for my Manchester United vs Newcastle United prediction, alongside team news and match odds.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United Betting Tips

  • Match Result - Newcastle United @ 6/4
  • Anytime Goalscorer - Alexander Isak (NEW) @ 13/10

Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Manchester United has not made much of an impact on results, with the Red Devils having only won four of the nine games that they have played under the Portuguese head coach.

Now comes a run of daunting fixtures, with the visit of in-form Newcastle being followed by a Premier League away trip to Liverpool and an FA Cup tie at Arsenal.

The Magpies come into this fixture in a confident mood, having won each of their last four games, from which they have scored 14 goals and conceded just once.

Team News

Manchester United will be without their skipper Bruno Fernandes after he was sent off against Wolves, while Manuel Ugarte is also suspended.

Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho could replace the absent pair, with Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount all still out with injuries.

Football Odds

Tino Livramento missed Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day with illness but is expected to be available again.

Nick Pope, Emil Krafth, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson remain unfit for the Magpies.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United Odds

Manchester United are the narrow favourites at 13/10, giving the Red Devils an implied win probability of 43.5%, ahead of Newcastle at 6/4 (40%), with the draw out at 13/5.

Old Trafford has not been a happy hunting ground for the visitors, who have only won once at the ground from their last 39 league games, last tasting victory in 2013.

Match Result - Newcastle United @ 6/4

Newcastle may have a poor record at Old Trafford, but the current form of these two teams suggests that they could claim a long-overdue win.

Eddie Howe’s side have tightened up defensively at a time when the goals are flowing in attack, with the Magpies having scored 19 goals in six games during December.

A switch to a back three has not made Manchester United any more secure, with Amorim’s team conceding in each of their last seven matches.

The hosts have lost their last two home games, with both Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth helping themselves to three goals at Old Trafford.

Anytime Goalscorer - Alexander Isak (NEW) @ 13/10

Alexander Isak has been the main source of goals during Newcastle’s recent scoring streak.

The Swede netted in the win against Aston Villa, which means that he has now scored in each of his last five Premier League appearances.

A hat-trick in his last away match at Ipswich means that Isak has found the net seven times during that run, bringing his overall tally to 11 goals.

With the striker on penalty duties for the Magpies, there is every chance that he can add to that tally against Manchester United’s porous defence.
