Man Utd vs Fulham Bet Builder Tips: 80/1 shot for Old Trafford opener

Ah, welcome back the Premier League. It only feels like yesterday that Manchester City lifted their fourth title in a row, yet it is the red half of Manchester who will kick off the 2024/25 campaign at Old Trafford, as they host Fulham, (20:00 Sky Sports Main Event).

Man Utd to win

I’m expecting big things from Manchester United this season. After the FA Cup win, Erik ten Hag seems to have found a spark, and they head into 2024/25 having addressed the defensive issues that haunted them last term. Tactically, the Dutch manager appears to have taken a step back and fixed his midfield problems, which saw his side concede the second-highest number of shots last term. 

Meanwhile, the arrivals of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt should help them out at the back as well, as Ten Hag was forced to play Casemiro at centre-back at the end of last season with disastrous consequences. The FA Cup win feels like a turning point, and I’m expecting a top-four finish for United this term. They should ease past Fulham.

Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo to score

Two young stars, and two men who I believe will have big seasons in red. We already know all about Alejandro Garnacho, and he showed his goalscoring prowess once again by finding the net at Wembley in the Community Shield. He should start here, while Ten Hag has a whole host of options to choose from in the final third. 

Given Rasmus Hojlund is out injured and Joshua Zirkzee hasn’t featured much in pre-season, I’d expect Amad Diallo to also be included in the front three. He started and did well in the Community Shield on the right, so Garnacho could play on the left if Marcus Rashford is deployed up front. I’m excited about both of these wingers, and am backing both to find the net against a poor Fulham outfit.

Over 8.5 match corners

I’ve set the bar relatively low here in terms of corners, but I do think at least nine in the match is easily achievable. Man Utd are going to want to come out and make a big statement, so expect them to be peppering shots at the Fulham goal. Meanwhile, if any defensive frailties still remain at Old Trafford, Fulham could pick up a handful of corners of their own. I think we should see double figures for corners here, but have played it safe with over 8.5 on our bet builder. 

Andreas Pereira and Antonee Robinson to be booked

Antonee Robinson is going to have a tough time at left-back against whichever winger he comes up against. Amad and Garnacho could switch wings to cause him problems, while Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are also tricky customers. I think backing him to pick up a yellow card at some point is a smart move.

Andreas Pereira is also a solid pick to get a yellow as he earned seven last season. The attacking midfielder seems to get involved in all sorts on the pitch, and isn’t afraid to get stuck in when needed. With a point to prove back at Old Trafford, I can see him going into the referee’s notebook. This takes our bet builder price to a massive 80/1.
