The Premier League returns with a bang this weekend as Manchester City host Liverpool in the early kick-off. Pep Guardiola’s men currently sit top of the table, with the Reds just one point behind them in second. It promises to be an enthralling encounter, and below we have picked out a bet builder for you to consider ahead of kick-off.

Man City vs Liverpool Bet Builder Tips:

  • Over 3.5 goals
  • Mo Salah and Erling Haaland to score
  • Rodri and Virgil van Dijk to be booked

Team News

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City appear to have a load of injuries heading into this game, but there is a feeling they may be over-exaggerating those issues over the international break. Erling Haaland missed Norway’s game against Scotland but is expected to play here, and the same can be said for Ederson and Nathan Ake. John Stones didn’t make the England squad and may be out for a little longer, while Kevin De Bruyne is expected to return in December.

Liverpool will try to get their South American players back fit in time for this game, their third 12:30 kick-off after an international break this season. Alexis Mac Allister is back from suspension but both Thiago and Andy Robertson remain out until 2024. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate is expected to be fit.

Match Odds

Manchester City are 4/6 to win this game, with Liverpool priced at 16/5. A draw is available at 16/5, BTTS is 1/2 and over 2.5 goals is the same price.

Over 3.5 goals

One thing we can almost guarantee in this fixture, is goals. Their last four meetings at the Etihad Stadium have finished 4-1, 3-2, 2-3 and 2-2. This is arguably the greatest fixture the Premier League has to offer in the current era and it almost guarantees goals. In this selection I’ve steered away from picking the match winner, given these games are so difficult to judge. Instead, backing lots of goals feels like the right thing to do.

Mo Salah and Erling Haaland to score

The two greatest goalscorers the league has to offer meet on Saturday lunchtime. Erling Haaland has already hit 13 league goals this term, but Salah isn’t far behind him with ten to his name. We may actually have a Golden Boot race on our hands and if we are backing both teams to get on the scoresheet, it makes perfect sense that these two are the most likely scorers.

Rodri and Virgil van Dijk to be booked

This is likely to be a game played at a high tempo, and both teams are likely to pick up a card. Rodri is the destructive force for City and he’s picked up five yellows already this season - making him their most booked player. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk will have to be on  top form to deny Haaland for 90 minutes, and I just feel he will be caught out and have to make a foul at some point. These two to be booked boost the odds to a sizable 40/1.
