Mallorca vs Las Palmas Prediction: Los Piratas to move away from La Liga plank walk

Copa del Rey finalists RCD Mallorca have had a tough old time of it in La Liga recently, going winless in their last five and losing three of their last four. Such form has dragged them into a relegation battle, but they can be thankful that 18th-placed Cadiz have matched their points tally since April 13, and are still six points behind them with four rounds of fixtures remaining.

Los Piratas couldn't ask for better opponents to face at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix on Saturday (13:00, Premier Sports), as they host a UD Las Palmas side that has lost seven successive games heading into the weekend. Read below for my Mallorca vs Las Palmas prediction, where I also note all the latest team news and match odds.

Mallorca vs Las Palmas Betting Tips

  • Mallorca to win & under 2.5 goals @ 15/8
  • Vedat Muriqi first goalscorer @ 100/30

Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Mallorca boss Javier Aguirre, who has a fully-fit squad to choose from this weekend. The Mexican could make changes to his starting XI, though, after a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last time out.

Samu Costa, Nemanja Radonjic and Cyle Larin are among those who could earn starts on Saturday.

Daley Sinkraven is out for Las Palmas after suffering a knee injury, while Sergi Cardona misses out after collecting a 10th booking of the campaign in last Saturday's 2-0 loss at Real Sociedad.

Jonathan Vieira, who opened the scoring the last time these sides met, is back from a suspension of his own, however.

Mallorca vs Las Palmas Odds

Mallorca are 8/13 to return to winning ways and deal a big blow to Cadiz's survival hopes, giving them an implied win probability of 61.9%, while the visitors are 11/2, or a 15.4% chance, to break out of their long winless run.

The draw is available at 5/2, both teams to score at 11/8, and over 2.5 goals at 11/8.

Mallorca to win & under 2.5 goals @ 15/8

This may not be the game to watch if it's goals you're looking for. Mallorca haven't scored more than once in a game since beating Rayo Vallecano 2-1 on February 11, and have just six across their last 10 La Liga outings. They've blanked four times in that period and have failed to find the net in their last two matches at home.

Las Palmas have endured an even worse 10-game spell, losing eight times and drawing twice. They've scored just five times in that run, and three of those came in a 3-3 draw with Getafe on March 2. That means they've failed to find the net seven times in their last 10 matches, and five of their last six.

Those statistics don't make for great reading, which is why I'm backing there to be under 2.5 goals. We can add more value by selecting Mallorca to win and pile more misery on Las Palmas, who must surely just want the season to end.

The incentive is certainly there for Mallorca to emerge victorious, as a defeat, coupled with a victory for Cadiz over Getafe on Sunday, would reduce the deficit to just three points.

Mallorca's last four home games have seen just one team score, with 1-0 scorelines in each, two of them in favour of Los Piratas (against Girona and Granada).

It could be another low-scoring affair on Saturday, but the hosts should have enough to claim all three points in their survival push.

Vedat Muriqi first goalscorer @ 100/30

It's not been as prolific a campaign as it was last season for Vedat Muriqi, who struck 15 times in 35 La Liga appearances in 2022/23 to help Mallorca to a ninth-place finish.

The Kosovan striker has just six goals to his name so far this term, but that still makes him his side's joint-top scorer in the league alongside Abdon Prats, who is no longer a regular starter.

Muriqi only has two goals this calendar year but one of them did come last month in a 1-1 draw at Cadiz, and he will be relied upon this Saturday to produce the goods.

The 30-year-old missed a penalty in August's reverse fixture on the opening day of the campaign, so he will be desperate to make amends and help his side to a win this weekend.

My previous selection suggests there will be two goals or fewer on Saturday, so if that is the case, it makes sense to back Muriqi to be first goalscorer in a Mallorca win to nil.
