Team News
Jeff Strasser's first squad as Luxembourg head coach includes a call-up for goalkeeper Anthony Moris (Al-Khaleej), fit-again midfielder Olivier Thill (IMT) and fit-again forward Yvadro Sanches (Heracles).
Defender Eric Veiga (AVS) has made the list again ahead of Marvin Martins (Almere City), but 16-year-old Brian Madjo (Metz), who had made three appearances for Luxembourg's senior side, has denied the call and will instead report for England U17s duty.
Luxembourg's all-time leading goalscorer, Gerson Rodrigues (Kanchanaburi Power FC), who has struck 23 times for his adopted country, has been banned from playing by the Board of Directors of the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF).
Rodrigues was found guilty on appeal and handed an 18‑month suspended prison sentence for domestic violence and bodily harm in April, but was still called up for the June friendlies against Slovenia and Ireland. The FLF have now reacted to the furore surrounding his previous inclusion and blocked his participation for this month's qualifiers.
Luxembourg vs Northern Ireland Stats
- The two teams exchanged four goals in last H2H (Nov 2024)
- BTTS-Yes has struck in four of NI's last five games
- Isaac Price (NIR) opened the scoring here last time
Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill has recalled goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell (Blackpool, on loan from Birmingham City), who replaces the stricken Conor Hazard (Plymouth Argyle), defender Eoin Toal (Bolton Wanderers) and forward Jamie Reid (Stevenage).
Defender Paddy McNair (San Diego), who was unable to play in the June friendlies after picking up a knock in squad training prior to the matches, will be aiming to add to his 75 caps after being named in the 26-man squad.
However, striker Lee Bonis (Chesterfield) and defender Aaron Donnell (Dundee FC) have both dropped down to the standby list, while full-back Ciaron Brown (Oxford United) and midfielder Jordan Thompson (Preston North End) are unavailable due to a knee and ankle injury, respectively.
Conor Bradley (Liverpool) has only featured once for his club side this season, off the bench in the 3-2 win at Newcastle United on August 25, but given his importance to Northern Ireland, is expected to start on Thursday.
Luxembourg vs Northern Ireland Odds
Luxembourg are winless in their last three internationals (D1, L2), but did beat Sweden, containing the talents of Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga, 1-0 at home in March. The Red Lions are 11/4, or a 26.7% chance, to record a second calendar year victory on Thursday, while Northern Ireland are 6/5, implying a 45.5% probability of success, to make it back-to-back wins, following their 1-0 triumph over Iceland in June.
The two teams exchanged four goals in their last meeting in November 2024, and another stalemate can be backed at 2/1.
Ross County and Northern Ireland striker Ronan Hale (23/10) heads the anytime goalscorer market as he hunts a first international strike, with Odra Opole attacker Edvin Muratovic (7/2) first up for Luxembourg.
Both Teams To Score - Yes @ 5/4
Luxembourg failed to score in June friendlies against Slovenia (0-1) and the Republic of Ireland (0-0), and they head into their September qualifiers without their main man up top, Rodrigues.
However, they scored twice the last time Northern Ireland visited the Stade de Luxembourg, albeit Rodrigues grabbed their second in a 2-2 draw.
Northern Ireland beat Iceland 1-0 last time out, netting in a seventh consecutive match and ending a four-game wait for a clean sheet.
Ordinarily, one might expect Thursday's contest to be a cagey one, particularly at the beginning of the qualifying campaign, but with only four nations in the group, and just two qualification spot - one automatic - both Luxembourg and Northern Ireland will be targeting all three points this week, particularly as they face Slovakia and Germany, respectively, on Sunday.
Therefore, we should see both sides pushing for a goal or two, making BTTS-Yes an attractive bet at 5/4.

Anytime Goalscorer - Isaac Price (NIR) @ 3/1
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Isaac Price only scored once in 15 EFL Championship appearances last season, following a January switch from Belgian side Standard Liege, but he's started the 2025/26 campaign on fire under new boss Ryan Mason, netting three times in four games.
The 21-year-old had already established a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder in international football, with nine strikes in 22 caps for the Northern Ireland senior team.
His latest effort for the Green and White Army came in the June victory over Iceland, which made it three goals in four internationals this year, following March efforts against Switzerland (1-1) and Sweden (1-5).
Price was on target the last time Northern Ireland played Luxembourg, opening the scoring in the 19th minute, and at 3/1, looks terrific value to strike against the same opposition, in the same location, on Thursday.
