The big one. The top two in the Premier League meet on Sunday afternoon at Anfield as Liverpool host Manchester City in a gargantuan clash (15:45). This game, the last of its kind between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, has been the biggest match in English football across the last six iterations of the Premier League.

They’ve shared the last six titles, and now unless Arsenal can do something special, the title will once again belong to the north-west. In Klopp’s final season, he could do the unthinkable and win the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup to go with the Carabao Cup the Reds won last month. Yet Pep will be doing everything in his power to spoil the party. This one is not to be missed, and here is our Liverpool vs Man City prediction.

Liverpool vs Man City Tips

  • Liverpool win and over 3.5 goals @ 5/1
  • Liverpool -2 handicap @ 10/1

Team News

Mohamed Salah is expected to return for Liverpool having returned to training this week, despite being rested for the Europa League win over Sparta Prague. That 5-1 win on Thursday was almost a perfect showing for Jurgen Klopp’s men, as his side put one foot into the quarter-finals, and they will be able to rest players for the return leg at Anfield.

The only slight concern came as Ibrahima Konate was taken off as a precaution, and a decision will be made about the centre-back ahead of Sunday’s game. Joe Gomez is also fit to play, but Ryan Gravenberch is out until after the international break. He joins Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota on the sidelines for this one.

Meanwhile Manchester City cruised past Copenhagen in midweek to book their spot in the last eight of the Champions League, a game which saw Matheus Nunes suffer a dislocated finger. He will be out for this one, along with Jack Grealish, while Jeremy Doku missed the midweek win but is expected to be fit enough for the trip to Anfield.

Match Odds

Liverpool are priced at 9/5 to win this game, while Man City are the slight favourites, priced at 5/4 to take all three points. A draw can be backed at 3/1, BTTS is 4/9 and over 2.5 goals is 1/2.

Liverpool win and over 3.5 goals @ 5/1

Backing against Man City at any point during a Premier League season feels like a risk. But this is Anfield, and something special is clearly happening this season. Since Klopp’s announcement, there has been a real drive to make this campaign end memorably. The Premier League title is the one they really want to win, and at Anfield, they’ve shown in the past they can beat any team in world football.

Over 3.5 speaks for itself with all the attacking quality on show. We should be in for an enthralling encounter, and Manchester City have only kept three clean sheets in their last 10 games. I’m expecting a raucous Liverpool atmosphere to play a big part here, and Klopp will be desperate to win what could be his last battle with Guardiola. A rivalry that has defined the Premier League over the last six years ends here.

Liverpool -2 handicap @ 10/1

Alright, I’m a believer. I’ll throw the statistics and the rulebook out the window and pick this one based on emotion. We’ve seen this Anfield crowd rattle some of the biggest names in world football, and I believe that Man City will not be defensively sound enough to keep them out for 90 minutes. More to the point, if the Reds get the first goal, the noise will be off the scale, and I think Guardiola’s men could get blown away in a short period of time.

With Nathan Ake or Josko Gvardiol at left-back, City’s defence hasn’t looked as assured this term as it has in past seasons, with their lack of clean sheets clear evidence to that point. I feel Liverpool can get at them. Salah should be back, Darwin Nunez is scoring goals and Liverpool may just blow the Citizens away. 10/1 for them to do so feels like a massive price.
