Liverpool begin their Premier League title defence when they welcome AFC Bournemouth to Anfield on Friday (20:00 BST, Sky Sports Main Event). The Reds have bolstered their squad over the summer with some exciting signings across different areas on the pitch, while the Cherries have had their impressive backline picked apart in the off-season.

Read on for my Liverpool vs Bournemouth Bet Builder Tips, which combine to make a 5/1 price.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Odds

Liverpool to win

Arne Slot's first season at Liverpool was a roaring success as he won the league at the first attempt. The Reds were consistently the best team in the division, but they were massively helped by their closest rivals faltering.

You thought that defending their crown this summer would be difficult knowing the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea were going to strengthen, but they have done just that themselves.

Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong (both Bayer Leverkusen), Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth) and Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt) have all joined the champions and have added to an already impressive squad.

Compare that to Bournemouth, who have had their backline ripped apart this summer. Kerkez has joined Liverpool, while Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen have joined Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively.

Kepa Arrizabalaga impressed in goal during his loan spell but he has now joined Arsenal on a permanent deal from Chelsea. The Cherries are heading into the new season without some of their most important players, and boss Andoni Iraola is going to need backing in the transfer window to keep his team on an upward trajectory.

I think they will fall to a defeat at Anfield as a result.

Both teams to score

The visitors can play their part in this contest, though, and I think we will see them get on the scoresheet on Friday night. Bournemouth have an exciting attacking lineup in the form of Evanilson, Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo and Dango Ouattara.

Last season, the Cherries ranked sixth in the top flight for BTTS - with 79% (15/19) of their away trips producing goals at both ends. I think this bodes well for their opening fixture of the campaign on Merseyside.

Additionally, throughout pre-season (five games) Liverpool failed to keep a clean sheet, while this trend did continue in their Community Shield defeat against Crystal Palace last Sunday.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Bet Builder Stats

  • Liverpool have won each of the five past meetings with Bournemouth across all competitions
  • Both teams to score struck in two of them
  • Hugo Ekitike (LIV) opened his account in the Community Shield last weekend
  • Tyler Adams (BOU) was booked seven times in the PL last season

Hugo Ekitike anytime goalscorer

Ekitike announced himself as a Liverpool player with an early goal at Wembley and there were lots of positives to take from his performance to suggest that he will be an upgrade on the recently-departed Darwin Nunez.

The Frenchman has commanded a significant fee for his services but you can see why, and he will have a lot to offer the Reds in 2025/26. Ekitike bagged 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last term, and with the service he will be provided at Liverpool, he should be able to at least match that figure.

With reports stating that the Reds are still looking to add Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak to their ranks, Ekitike will be desperate to show the club hierarchy that they don't need the Sweden international - so I'm backing him to get on the scoresheet again.

Tyler Adams to be carded

The midfield battle is going to be critical for Bournemouth so that they don't get blown away by the reigning champions. A lot is going to be asked of Tyler Adams in the engine room to break up attacks and get the Cherries going on the turnover.

For this reason, I think he will be a shrewd selection to pick up a yellow card, particularly as he collected seven in the previous league campaign. The American international averaged 2.07 fouls per game in the top flight, and so I think his chances of going into the book are favourable.
