There's an early-season battle between two Premier League title contenders to look forward to this Sunday (16:30 BST, Sky Sports Main Event) at Anfield, where reigning champions Liverpool host last season's runners-up, Arsenal.

Below are my Liverpool vs Arsenal Stats-Based Bet Builder Tips, with my four selections combining for a 9/1 payout.

Liverpool vs Arsenal Stats-Based Bet Builder Tips

  • Double Chance - Liverpool or Draw
  • Hugo Ekitike (LIV) Total Shots on Target - 1+
  • Gabriel Magalhaes (ARS) Total Shots - 1+
  • Player Shown Any Card - Dominik Szoboszlai (LIV)

Double Chance - Liverpool or Draw

I actually think Liverpool will pick up all three points this Sunday, with concerns over the fitness of Martin Odegaard and, particularly, Bukayo Saka, who were both forced off injured in last Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.

However, for this Bet Builder, which involves four legs, I'll play things slightly safer and just back the Reds to avoid defeat.

Liverpool vs Arsenal Odds

It's something Liverpool have managed to do in regulation time of the last 15 head-to-heads at Anfield (W7, D8), with their last defeat to the Gunners on home soil a 2-0 defeat in September 2012, when Arsenal's current boss, Mikel Arteta, was starting in midfield for the north London side.

The two sides exchanged a couple of 2-2 draws last season, and the last four meetings between them at Anfield have finished level.

Only Nottingham Forest (0-1), in September last year, have managed to beat Arne Slot's Liverpool at Anfield in a Premier League game, so backing Liverpool in the Double Chance market is basically always a wise move under the Dutchman.

With a couple of Arsenal's key men potentially unavailable, I don't see the Gunners ending their winless run at Anfield this weekend.

Hugo Ekitike (LIV) Total Shots on Target - 1+

Liverpool's most expensive summer signing, Florian Wirtz, hasn't set the Premier League alight yet, but their second-most expensive, Hugo Ekitike, certainly has, netting in his first two top-flight games against AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old opened his account for the Reds against Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield earlier this month, and has kept up his goal-a-game record in victories over the Cherries (4-2) and Magpies (2-3).

Today's Football Fixtures

Ekitike has taken five shots as a Premier League player, hitting the target with 60%, with a long-range strike saved in the third minute against Bournemouth, followed by two goals.

The French forward scored 15 Bundesliga goals for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, averaging 1.5 shots on target per game, and he may only need one half-chance to fashion an effort at David Raya's goal on Sunday.

Liverpool vs Arsenal Bet Builder Stats

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 15 Anfield meetings with Arsenal (W7, D8)
  • Hugo Ekitike (LIV) has registered three shots on target across two PL apps (two goals)
  • Gabriel Magalhaes (ARS) averaged 0.7 shots per PL game in 2024/25
  • Dominik Szoboszlai (LIV) received six PL yellows last season

Gabriel Magalhaes (ARS) Total Shots - 1+

Arsenal's brilliance from corners is the stuff of legend now, with 33 scored since the 2023/24 season - no other Premier League side has more than 20. They've already struck gold from corners three times already this term - once against Manchester United, twice against Leeds United - and Liverpool will have to be on their guard this Sunday to avoid being added to that unwanted list.

They'll have their work cut out against the likes of Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, though, with the 27-year-old profiting 17 times from set-pieces in the last five years.

Premier League Odds

One of those 17 goals came at Anfield in December 2023, when his header opened the scoring in a 2-2 draw. Later that season, at the Emirates Stadium in February, he saw a left-footed effort saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and a header miss the target, either side of an own-goal in a 3-1 victory over the Reds.

Gabriel recorded his first shot of the current campaign last Saturday, with his header against Leeds going wide in the 15th minute.

He averaged 0.8 shots per game in the Premier League last season, and he should follow the footsteps of Newcastle centre-back Dan Burn, who rose highest from a corner in the 49th minute of the Magpies' 3-2 defeat to Liverpool last Monday.

Player Shown Any Card - Dominik Szoboszlai (LIV)

Dominik Szoboszlai put in a terrific shift at right-back for the majority of Monday's trip to St James' Park, before being moved into a more natural midfield role for the latter stages, famously dummying a pass from Mohamed Salah to allow 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha to create history with a last-gasp winner.

With Conor Bradley making his first appearance of the season off the bench, and Joe Gomez with another week's training in his legs, it will be interesting to see whether Slot sticks with Szoboszlai at right-back against Arsenal, especially with Alexis Mac Allister, who missed the trip to Tyneside, looking to return to midfield.

Regardless, whether the Hungarian begins the game in defence or midfield, he's likely to be in close contact with new Arsenal signing, Eberechi Eze, who tends to do most of his work on the left-hand side of attack.

The 27-year-old was fouled, on average, 1.5 times per game in the Premier League last season, and is someone who could pose problems to Szoboszlai and his teammates.

The Liverpool No. 8 averaged 1.2 fouls per game in England's top flight last term, and was booked six times. He hasn't been cautioned yet in 2025/26, but made exactly two fousl against Bournemouth and Newcastle, and was whistled for three offences against Arsenal at Anfield in May.
