There's a huge battle in the North West on Sunday afternoon (16:30) as Liverpool host rivals Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League.

Liverpool currently lead the way in the top-flight on 37 points and United are 10 points and six places behind them. The visitors will be anxious returning to this ground after their humiliating 7-0 defeat here last season, and they cannot afford for another drubbing of that scale against their enemies again.

Both teams were in European action in midweek which saw United crash out of the Champions League as the side bottom of their group, whereas Liverpool were able to rest key players for this clash due to having sealed their place in the Europa League knockout stage early.

There is more than pride on the table for both these clubs in Sunday's showdown, and we've picked out a couple of markets based on how we see the game unfolding.

Liverpool vs Man United Betting Tips

  • Liverpool to win to nil - 8/5
  • Mohamed Salah to score first - 3/1

Match Odds

Liverpool are the overwhelming favourites to win the bragging rights at 2/7. If you think United have what it takes to earn a draw here, you can back a stalemate at 5/1. And if you're feeling extra confident the Red Devils can pull off an upset, they're 8/1 to take the three points.

Both teams to score in this encounter can be found at 4/7. Over 2.5 goals is marketed at 1/3.

Team News

Key players will be well-rested after missing out of the Europa League game in midweek, but Jurgen Klopp has quite a big injury list to deal with. Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara, Andrew Robertson, Diogo Jota and Alexis Mac Allister are all ruled out for the weekend.

Manchester United are going to be without Jadon Sancho, who is still exiled from first-team duties by Erik ten Hag. Amad Diallo, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia are unavailable for the trip to Anfield.

Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw could also miss out this weekend.

Liverpool to win to nil @ 8/5

The football world was left stunned last season when Liverpool hammered United 7-0 in this fixture. The Red Devils were calamitous defensively and things quickly unravelled in the second half after they went 1-0 down just before the break.

The wound that was inflicted may have healed to a degree but there will always be a scar, and the players will be uneasy returning to the scene of the crime this weekend. Ten Hag's side were schooled by AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford last weekend as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat. They were second best in every department and after a somewhat impressive win over the Chelsea in their previous fixture, the players took five steps backwards with that performance.

Liverpool will hold the psychological advantage on Sunday, which could see them have a strong start and mean that United concede early two league games in a row. The Reds are a much better footballing outfit than their rivals and will most likely play them off the park at Anfield.

While we are not holding our breath for another 7-0 spectacle, we are convinced that Liverpool can score without reply in this fixture. Over their last two competitive matches, United have offered very little in attack, while looking vulnerable at the back.

Liverpool to win to nil at 8/5

Mohamed Salah to score first @ 3/1 (Pays out double the odds if the player scores twice and triple if they score a hat-trick)

One Liverpool player who will be looking forward to having another crack at United is none other than their Egyptian King Mohamed Salah. The left-footed wizard scored a brace against the Red Devils in this fixture last season, and his 12 goals against United are the most he has scored against a single opponent in his career - he loves to play against Liverpool's great rivals.

Salah has now scored 200 goals for the Reds since his arrival in 2017, and what a signing he has turned out to be. He still continues to deliver the goods for Klopp with 11 Premier League goals so far this term. Only Erling Haaland can better his current total this campaign. Salah will fancy his chances to catch-up to Haaland's tally of 14 when he faces United this Sunday.

He has so much joy whenever he faces the Red Devils and we fancy him to open up proceedings on this occasion.

Mohamed Salah to score first at 3/1
