Wednesday’s Premier League action should see some thrilling match-ups, but arguably the biggest of the lot comes as title challengers Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield (20:15).

These two will meet again in late February in the Carabao Cup final, but first Jurgen Klopp must secure another vital three points in what is turning out to be his farewell tour. Here’s how we see this one panning out.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Tips

  • Over 2.5 Liverpool goals @ 6/4
  • Diogo Jota to score anytime @ 23/20

Team News

Liverpool are hoping that Mo Salah’s hamstring injury will heal ASAP, but it seems as though this Premier League match will come too soon for the Egyptian. Kostas Tsimikas is moving closer to a return while Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai and Trent Alexander-Arnold all came off the bench in the win over Norwich. That trio will provide a huge boost to Klopp, who has coped well with this mini-injury crisis.

Chelsea’s injury list is massive. Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Romeo Lavia and Robert Sanchez are all out, while Levi Colwill could miss this game with a knock. On the positive side of things, Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto could both feature at Anfield.

Match Odds

Liverpool are 4/7 to win this match, with Chelsea priced at 4/1 to take all three points. A draw can be backed at 7/2, over 2.5 goals is 4/9 and BTTS is 8/15.

Over 2.5 Liverpool goals @ 6/4

Truthfully, I can only see this game going one way. Liverpool are top of the league as things stand and with returning players have a real shot at winning the title this year. When you add in the emotional factor of this being Klopp’s last season, every single game at Anfield is going to feel special.

The atmosphere in the 5-2 home win against Norwich in the FA Cup was excellent and this game against Chelsea is likely to be even more intense.

We’ve seen before just how important Liverpool’s home fans can be, and in truth, it would be a surprise to see them lose again at home this season. Chelsea have been unbelievably poor yet again this term, and I can’t see them causing any issues for Klopp’s Reds.

Instead, what I expect is a rip-roaring start from the hosts that will blow Chelsea away in the first half an hour. Over 2.5 goals for the home side, priced at 6/4 feels like the safe pick on this occasion.

The Reds are going for it in all competitions, and Chelsea are going to be their latest victims.

Diogo Jota to score anytime @ 23/20

Many thought Liverpool may struggle with star man Mo Salah out of the side, but instead the goalscoring responsibility has been shared amongst several of their talented forwards. The one man who has stepped up to the plate more than most however, is Portuguese sensation Diogo Jota.

He’s registered a remarkable three goals and three assists in the last three Premier League matches, while he also scored against Norwich last time out. Klopp is well aware of just how talented Diogo Jota is, and he will be trusted again as part of a thrilling front three against Chelsea.

He can play off either wing, or centrally, and this versatility will be key for the run-in, even when Salah returns on the right.

This rich vein of goalscoring form is always worth getting behind, and the 4/1 on him to score first looks tempting. However, on this occasion, when we are expecting plenty of goals, I’m more than happy back Diogo Jota to score anytime at 23/20.
