Leeds vs Newcastle Prediction: Magpies can find a way to win

Leeds United will look to respond to their 5-0 drubbing at Arsenal last week in the Premier League when they host Newcastle United at Elland Road on Saturday (17:30 BST, Sky Sports Main Event).
The Magpies travel to West Yorkshire off the back of a late 3-2 home defeat against Liverpool. It was a game they performed well in but they now have a few personnel concerns heading into the weekend. Read on for my Leeds vs Newcastle predictions, supported by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Leeds are missing key midfielders Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka because of knee injuries, so both will be out until after the international break. Recent acquisition Noah Okafor will need to be monitored closely as he picked up a groin issue in midweek.
Anton Stach looks set to feature in midfield and could be joined by Sean Longstaff, who made the switch to Leeds from Newcastle earlier in the summer.
Joel Piroe is likely to keep his place up front but Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be in contention to make his full debut for the Whites. The former Everton man featured in the Carabao Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and it was not a debut to remember.
The striker squandered a handful of chances to score before missing his penalty in the shoot-out.
Leeds vs Newcastle Stats
- Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Leeds
- Anthony Elanga (NEW) recorded 11 PL assists for Nottingham Forest last season
Newcastle are once again without forward Alexander Isak, who continues his tantrum in the hopes of completing a transfer to Liverpool before Monday's deadline. Anthony Gordon had been a makeshift false nine in his absence but he will serve the first of a three-game suspension for the red card he picked up against the Reds on Monday night.
This will surely see Eddie Howe turn to Will Osula, who scored from the bench in that game, to lead the line. Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga look set to continue on the flanks, but one of last term's star performers, Jacob Murphy, will be eager for his first league start of the campaign.
Some brighter news dropped on Thursday, though, with Newcastle reported to be closing in on Germany international Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart in a club-record deal thought to be around £70m.
Fabian Schar (concussion), Joelinton (groin) and Sandro Tonali (shoulder) were all forced off with issues against Liverpool and are unlikely to feature on Saturday. This could lead to full debuts for Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw, who both joined the Magpies this summer.
Leeds were victorious in their league opener at home to Everton and they are 12/5 to inflict more misery on Newcastle.
The visitors drew their opening fixture in a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa. This has also been the outcome in three of the previous four top-flight clashes between Leeds and Newcastle. The stalemate is priced at 13/5, which has an implied probability of 27.8%.
Newcastle are 23/20 to come away with the three points.
Five of the past seven competitive meetings between the two clubs have produced goals at both ends and BTTS is on offer at 4/6.
Newcastle and both teams to score @ 11/4
The whole Isak situation has likely had an impact on Newcastle's start to the season, but with the way they played against Liverpool with 10-men showed just how much character Howe's squad still has without their sulking striker.
They deserved something from that game and you'd even say that a point was the least they deserved. They will be fired up to go and claim their first win of the season at Leeds, and will sense the Whites could be ripe for the picking after they were thrashed at Arsenal before losing to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
Elland Road will be a tough place to visit, but I think Newcastle's individual star quality can shine through here and I fancy them to pick up their first three points of the campaign. Ampadu and Tanaka will be great losses in the middle of the park and could invite the Magpies to play right through them.
Leeds can play their part, though, as they are the home side and Newcastle are going to be without some of their stars, too. Given how frequently BTTS has struck in this fixture in recent years, I reckon we will see the net bulge at both ends.

Player to assist a goal - Anthony Elanga @ 4/1
Elanga was electric down the right flank against Liverpool on Monday and his pace was frightening. I'd argue he's the quickest player in the division when it comes to full acceleration, and this can cause problems for Leeds' left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Elanga was unfortunate not to come away from the last match with an assist as he put in some inviting balls in the first half before the Magpies went down to 10 men, and it was the suspended Gordon who squandered a couple of the good opportunities.
With Osula likely to aim for in the box at Leeds, I fancy Elanga to pick up his first assist of the campaign. He was one of the best in the Premier League last term with Nottingham Forest with 11, and I do believe he can at least match that figure in Howe's side in 2025/26.
