We’ve got a true Christmas treat for you this weekend in the Championship as third-placed Leeds United host the team directly above them, Ipswich Town.

With a ten-point gap between the two teams, this is simply a game that Leeds have to win if they want to keep any hopes of automatic promotion alive heading into 2024. Below we’ve previewed the game and given a couple of betting selections for you to consider.

Leeds vs Ipswich Tips

  • Ipswich Town to win @ 3/1
  • Ipswich to win and over 3.5 goals @ 9/1

Team News

Junior Firpo could return to the Leeds United squad this weekend but Sam Byram and Stuart Dallas both remain out. Aside from that, Daniel Farke has a fully fit squad to select from, but could choose to rotate his reliable front four, who have got through an awful lot of work this month. Willy Gnonto would be the likely beneficiary if changes are made up top.

For Ipswich Town, Lee Evans remains out but aside from that the Tractor Boys have a clean bill of health. They came through their 2-2 draw with Norwich unscathed and can now look ahead to two gargantuan fixtures.

Match Odds

Leeds United have been priced at 4/5 to win this match, with a draw available at 3/1. Ipswich are also 3/1 to take all three points at Elland Road. BTTS is 4/7, over 2.5 goals is 8/13 and Joel Piroe is 11/8 to score anytime.

Ipswich Town to win @ 3/1

For me, this is a 50/50 match-up - so the 3/1 on offer for Ipswich to win is well worth backing. It’s a huge price for a team that have been almost faultless so far this season. The Tractor Boys have only lost five times in 2023 in all competitions, and only once on the road in the Championship this season.

They sit second in the away form table, having won seven of 11 on the road and have made the second-best start to a Championship season ever. 3/1 on them to win any match this season is insane, given they are so good. They are also going to be willing to attack Leeds, something that could pay off for them. The home side haven’t lost at Elland Road yet this season, but I’m backing that to change before Christmas.

Ipswich to win and over 3.5 goals @ 9/1

If we think Ipswich can win this one, backing there to be over 3.5 goals is the next sensible pick. They are the division's biggest entertainers, having scored 47 goals and conceded 28 so far this term. No team has scored more, with Kieran McKenna’s men averaging over 2.5 goals per game.

Leeds are also going to want to take the game to them as two of the finest attacks this division has ever seen meet. This game should deliver both goals and fireworks, so over 3.5 goals is likely to come in. Given we can add an Ipswich win to that selection, we can produce a huge price of 9/1.
