League 2 Top Goalscorer Odds: Bradford’s Cook aims for second Golden Boot

The new League 2 season gets underway on Friday and there is a lot of excitement building. With the well-backed Stockport County and Wrexham no longer in the picture, there is an opportunity for several clubs to enjoy success in 2024/25.
This goes for the players too, with last year's top scorer Macaulay Langstaff moving from Notts County to Millwall. Who has what it takes to be this year's top marksman? We take a look at the leading candidates using Betfred's League 2 top goalscorer odds list.
League 2 Top Goalscorer Odds
Andy Cook @ 11/1
When you have a striker who has netted 45 league goals in the past two years, it is hardly surprising to see him listed as the bookies' favourite. Bradford City front man Andy Cook, like his club, will be hoping for a lot more fruitful campaign, as they look to escape League 2 and return to League 1.
Cook is a proven goalscorer at this level, who consistently delivers for the Bantams. Last term's total was nine below the year before, and it was that 28-goal haul that saw him claim his first League 2 Golden Boot. If he can reach that form again, a second could beckon for him come May. And I think 11/1 for him to accomplish this feat again offers excellent value.
Joe Ironside @ 14/1
Doncaster Rovers' rise from 20th to the play-offs last year will go down in EFL legend and someone who played a huge part for Grant McCann's side was Joe Ironside. The towering striker netted 20 times in the league.
All the players who were above him in the scoring charts last term are no longer in the picture, having either gained promotion or departed for other clubs in higher divisions. This instantly raised Ironside's chances of claiming the Golden Boot this year, and with Doncaster set to be much stronger after their late-season flourish, he could be a sensible selection.
Callum Hendry @ 14/1
After losing 16-goal striker Max Dean over the summer, Milton Keynes have signed Callum Hendry as his replacement. The 26-year-old hasn't posted double digits at this level in his two years with Salford City, but he is joining the team that are favourites for the league title, and that scored 83 goals.
He's unproven, but with the quality around him, he could take his own game to another level.
Will Grigg @ 16/1
A named that has reverberated around English football since 2016 when a Wigan Athletic fan made a chant about him to the song Freed from Desire. He was a prolific scorer in the EFL back then, but hasn't produced high numbers since 2018.
He's back in the Football League with Chesterfield, whom he won the National League with in 2023/24. There he found the back of the net 24 times in 38 league appearances, so he certainly is returning with confidence.
The Spireites, under the guidance of Paul Cook are expected to challenge for promotion this year. Grigg may be on hand to provide a number on goals, but I have my doubts that he will compete with some of the others in this list.
Paddy Madden @ 16/1
Chesterfield have brought in another experienced striker at this level in Paddy Madden, to share the goal burden with Grigg. Madden joined after leaving Stockport, whom he scored 17 goals for last year to help them claim the League 2 title.
He could be a huge asset for the Spireites as they look to go for promotion themselves. Over his career he has been a prolific scorer in League 1, League 2 and the National League. I think that there could be plenty of goals in store for him if he is given enough minutes.
Alassana Jatta @ 16/1
Notts County forward Alassana Jatta is interestingly quite high in this list but after arriving at Meadow Lane in February, he netted five goals in 10 outings in League 2. The Magpies are going to be hoping for much more success collectively this term as they will look to push for promotion.
He will face a lot of pressure as their main source of goals has gone in Langstaff. However, he will be aided by two of the best creative players in the division in Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley to provide him with the service he requires to produce the numbers his predecessor delivered on a consistent basis.
It will be interesting to see how he fares over a full campaign, and he might just surprise us.
