Las Palmas and Sevilla both had disappointing campaigns in 2024/25, with both sides managing to avoid relegation. They will be hoping for more fortune this term and they begin by facing each other at Estadio de Gran Canaria on Friday (20:30, Premier Sports1/LaLigaTV).

Read on for my Las Palmas vs Sevilla prediction, accompanied by team news and match odds.

Team News

The hosts will be without the services of three of their stars for this curtain-raiser, with Daley Sinkgraven and Pejino out alongside new signing Adnan Januzaj.

There are several players hoping to make their debuts in this clash, including  Marvin Park, Manu Fuster, Jasper Cillessen, Oli McBurnie and Scott McKenna, and all could make their way into Garcia Pimienta's starting XI.

For Sevilla, Suso remains sidelined with a knee injury, while Albert Sambi Lokonga is unlikely to make his debut due to a hamstring issue.

Saul is also unavailable and his debut will have to wait, as the Spaniard is suspended due to the red card that he colleceted in Atletico Madrid's last game of the 2023-24 campaign.

Lucien Agoume's loan move from Inter Milan has been made permanent, so the 22-year-old is in line to make his first appearance as a permanent Sevilla player, while forward Kelechi Iheanacho will be hoping to make his first competitive appearance in the final third.

Sevilla and both teams to score @ 9/2

Sevilla are not accustomed to finishing near the bottom of the table and they will be looking to climb the table this term. Just a single point separated them from Las Palmas last term, and that is something else they will want to change.

On paper this will be a tough away game to start off with, given the transfer activity that has gone on in Gran Canaria over the summer. However, Las Palmas have failed to beat the visitors in the league since September 2015, and I fancy this trend to continue on Friday night.

I do see both teams scoring, though, as both sets of defences were extremely frail last year, with Sevilla conceding 54 times. I think they can land an impressive opening day win, but it will be tight.

Sevilla and btts at 9/2 Over 2.5 goals @ 6/5

As such, I think we could be in for at least three goals on Friday night. I have already mentioned that Sevilla conceded 54 goals in La Liga in 2023/24, and Las Palmas themselves leaked 47.

I can see both defences being a little shaky heading into the new campaign, which help this market land. Sevilla will be missing the impact of prolific goalscorer Youssef En-Nesyri, who left for Fenerbahce over the summer, but they will be hoping that Iheanacho can step up to the plate and be their regular source of goals this term.

It would be good for his confidence to open his account early, and against a side that were susceptible to conceding last year, he will fancy his chances - which should help over 2.5 goals produced on Friday.
