Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction: Expect goals in Turin

Juventus welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday (20:00, TNT Sports 2) for their opening fixture of the Uefa Champions League. This is the first competitive meeting between the two sides in 10 years and their five UCL tussles to date have been interesting contests.

Team News

Juventus have most of their first-team stars available but they are without the services of Edon Zhegrova (fitness), Fabio Miretti and Francisco Conceicao (both muscle) due to injury.

Boss Igor Tudor is unlikely to make too many alterations to the side that won a seven-goal thriller against Inter Milan last time out, so expect goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio to be shielded by a back three of Lloyd Kelly, Gleison Bremer and Federico Gatti.

Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram should feature in the middle of the park, while Jonathan David could be considered to come into the side to lead the line, having bagged nine goals in 14 Champions League matches for Lille last season.

The striker could be aided by Kenan Yildiz and Andrea Cambiaso, who is available for selection after a domestic ban.

Football Odds

Dortmund boss Niko Kovac is not blessed with as much choice when it comes to Tuesday's clash, with limited options to make up his defence. He's likely going to be forced to stick with the same three-man defence that featured at Heidenheim on Saturday - Julian Ryerson, Waldemar Anton and Ramy Bensebaini.

Aaron Anselmino, Niklas Sule (both muscle), Nico Schlotterbeck (fitness), Fabio Silva, Emre Can (both abductor) and Julian Brandt (scaphoid fracture) are all sidelined for the Black and Yellows.

Serhou Guirassy, who fired in 13 goals in 14 UCL games last term, will spearhead the visitors' front line, likely supported by Karim Adeyemi and Max Beier.

Juventus have won four of the five UCL meetings with Dortmund to date and they come into this having won their previous two home fixtures in Serie A. They are 21/20 (implied probability of 48.8%) to come out on top on Tuesday.

The draw is priced at 13/5, while Dortmund are 11/4 to come away with the three points - and they are unbeaten on their travels in all competitions so far in 2025/26 (three games).

Both teams to score has struck in four of their five head-to-head contests in the Champions League and it is marketed at 8/11 to strike again.

Since Europe's premier competition was rebranded, the five times these two sides have faced each other have always been entertaining and provided goals. As I mentioned earlier, four of the five meetings have seen both teams get on the scoresheet, with two of these occasions coming in Turin.

To add better value to this selection, though, I have combined it with over 2.5 goals because there is never a shortage when these two have collided on this stage. All five previous meetings have produced at least three goals and I am confident that this trend will continue on Tuesday night.

Additionally, they met at Signal Iduna Park for a friendly last month, which also met this threshold, with Juve winning 2-1. It's been 10 years since they last met in a competitive match and the suspense of the past decade is likely to spill out at the Allianz Stadium as I am predicting captivating contest between two clubs who have great pedigree in Europe.

Jonathan David anytime goalscorer @ 5/4

As I think there will be goals on offer here, I think there is also value to be had in picking out a goalscorer. Considering Juve have had the better of this fixture over the years it feels sensible to pick out a home player to get on the scoresheet.

Of all the options, Jonathan David stands out the most. The Canadian forward started the Inter victory on the bench, and this suggests to me that he was being prepared to start against Dortmund, particularly as he bagged nine goals in the previous Champions League campaign with Lille.

He struck against Dortmund for Les Dogues last term, so the Black and Yellows know all too well about the threat he poses - but stopping him is another matter entirely.
