Both Teams to Score - Yes
Manchester United are joint-bottom of the Premier League BTTS table, with both the Red Devils and fierce rivals Liverpool only seeing 36 per cent (four) of their first 11 games finish with at least a goal on either side. However, three of those have arrived in their last four matches.
Ipswich, meanwhile, rank highly in the BTTS table with 73 per cent (eight) of their 11 contests ending with both teams scoring, including six of their last seven and their most recent three. At home, the Tractor Boys will fancy their chances of giving Man Utd a run for their money, and with the visitors still getting accustomed to how Amorim likes to set his team up, there could be some joy for Sunday’s hosts.
McKenna’s side have only kept one clean sheet so far, though, and that came in a goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on September 14. They’ve gone seven games without a shutout and that’s a worrying statistic heading into a contest with United, who have scored in their previous four league matches.
Player cards - Manuel Ugarte (MUN) Carded
Man United midfielder Manuel Ugarte enjoyed a successful international round of fixtures with Uruguay, coming off the bench to net a late winner in La Celeste’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Colombia in Montevideo before starting their 1-1 draw with Brazil in Salvador.
He arrived back to Manchester this week and was greeted by his former boss Amorim, who helped turn him into a player bought for big money by Paris Saint-Germain last year. It didn’t work out for him in the French capital and he has made a fairly slow start to life at Old Trafford but the belief will be that Amorim can get the best out of him in a formation and style that he has already been immersed in.
Ugarte did a lot of the dirty work for Sporting, as evidenced by the 11 Liga Portugal yellows he received in his final season at the club in 2022/23. He then picked up five in 25 Ligue 1 outings for PSG and already has two in six Premier League matches for Man Utd. He has also been cautioned once in the Uefa Europa League and was booked against Brazil for his country earlier this week, his third yellow across his last four starts for Man Utd and Uruguay.
Player stats - Leif Davis (IPS) 1+ Shots
Next up is a shot for Ipswich left-back Leif Davis, who is averaging 0.8 shots per game in this season's Premier League, up from the 0.7 p/g he averaged in the 2023/24 EFL Championship.
He scored his first top-flight goal in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City on November 2 and that strike followed three attempts against Brentford a week prior, while he shot once in the Tractor Boys' last game, a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur on November 10, meaning he has taken at least one shot in his previous three appearances.
The 24-year-old usually takes set-pieces, so he could also benefit from a free-kick in a dangerous situation, adding to the likelihood of him shooting on Sunday.
Player stats - Liam Delap (IPS) 1+ Shots on Target
Last up is a shot on target for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, who will be desperate to get one over his old adversaries. The Manchester City Academy graduate is enjoying a stellar first season at Portman Road after joining from Pep Guardiola's star-studded side in the summer, scoring six goals in his first 11 Premier League appearances for the club, 10 of which have been starts.
Delap scored last time out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is averaging 0.8 shots on target per game, while Man Utd have conceded at least three shots on target in their last three Premier League matches, including five against Leicester before the international break, although Andre Onana did save all five efforts from the Foxes.
