Inter vs Atalanta Prediction: Back goals in Friday night clash

The new Serie A TV deal in the UK means that Friday's Inter vs Atalanta clash (19:45) is not on TNT Sports. This doesn't stop it being one of the biggest games of the weekend though and our Italian Football expert Daniele Fisichella is here to preview the encounter.

Inter welcome Atalanta to the San Siro in a clash that promises to test the mettle of both sides on Friday evening.  

Fresh from a 2-0 win over Lecce, Simone Inzaghi's side will be eager to maintain their momentum.  

The Neroazzurri have displayed a decent form in the first two matches, showing hints of the relentless style that characterized their play last year.  

Despite not being at their most clinical yet, they've managed to find a rhythm, particularly with the emerging partnership between Marcus Thuram and Mehdi Taremi up front.  

However, they will need to avoid overplaying and focus on more direct execution to keep their attack sharp. 

Atalanta, meanwhile, arrive at the San Siro on the back of a disappointing loss to Torino.  

Gian Piero Gasperini's men will be looking to bounce back, but they face several challenges. Key players like Scalvini and Scamacca remain sidelined, and Koopmeiners has just joined Juventus. 

However, the arrival of Raoul Bellanova could offer a spark on the right flank.  

Inter have dominated recent encounters, remaining unbeaten in their last 12 games against Atalanta, including five consecutive wins.  

Yet, Gasperini's side is known for its resilience, and the visitors will seek to prove their credentials as a top-four contender.  

This match represents a significant early test for both teams as they aim to establish themselves in the upper echelons of Serie A this season. 

Team News: 

Inter are likely to field a similar line-up to the one that secured victory against Lecce, with the only doubt being Lautaro Martínez's presence from the first minute. The Argentine striker has trained with his teammates on Wednesday but might start from the bench.  

In which case, Marcus Thuram and Mehdi Taremi will continue to lead the attack, while Benjamin Pavard should feature in the back three.  

Matteo Darmian and Denzel Dumfries are vying for the right wing-back position, with Davide Frattesi pushing for a start in midfield over Henrikh Mkhitaryan.  

Atalanta will be without key players Scalvini, Scamacca and, potentially, Lookman. New signing Raoul Bellanova is set to compete with Davide Zappacosta for a starting spot on the right.

Inter head into their clash with Atalanta as the favourites, priced at 4/6 to win at San Siro.  

While they haven't quite hit the heights of last season's title-winning campaign, they remain strong on home turf, having defeated Atalanta in their last five encounters.  

Atalanta, coming off a 2-1 defeat to Torino, are underdogs at 4/1, while the draw is priced at 3/1. 

The odds for both teams to score are set at 4/6, reflecting the recent trend: both teams have found the net in four of their last six Serie A meetings.  

Meanwhile, Inter have won three of these four matches when both teams have scored, showing their capability to edge out tight contests.
