Huddersfield vs Exeter Prediction: Corners the key to success for Terriers

League 1 continues at the weekend and there's a top-six battle taking place at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday (15:00), as fifth-placed Huddersfield Town take on an Exeter City side sat just one spot below them in the table.

Fifth plays sixth on Saturday and that's testament to Exeter's impressive start to the season, as not many would have placed them in the play-off spots prior to the start of the League 1 season.

Huddersfield were expected to be there and after a poor run of four straight defeats, have started to click into gear and move back up the table. Wins over Barnsley and Bristol Rovers were followed with an important looking point in north Wales in midweek, as Town became the first team to avoid defeat at Wrexham's Racecourse stronghold.

As for City, their superb recent run came to a shuddering halt on Tuesday, with an improving Reading side defeating them 2-1 in front of an expectant St James Park faithful. Gary Caldwell celebrates two years in charge of the club this week and what better way to celebrate than an away win against a promotion rival. The Terriers might have something to say about that though.

Michael Duff continues to suffer from injury issues to key players, with right wing-back Lasse Sorensen confirmed as out for a couple of months with a hamstring issue. He joins Josh Koroma, Lee Nicholls, Michal Helik and Radinio Balker in the treatment room as the injuries mount up for the Terriers.

There may be a change or two in midfield but other than that, Town should remain pretty much unchanged following the point at Wrexham.

As for the Grecians, Caldwell could be tempted to rotate the pack after their loss to Reading and the likes of Josh Magennis, Millenic Alli and Kamari Doyle could all find themselves in the starting XI.

In-form Town are unsurprisingly odds-on at 7/10 to pick up three points, giving them an implied win probability of almost 59%, while Exeter are the 4/1 outsiders, or a 20% chance.

The draw is available at a price of 11/4, with both teams to score at 4/5 and over 2.5 goals at 5/6.

Town enter this game as 7/10 favourites and I'd have to agree with that pricing. The team look full of confidence and fight at the moment and Duff has the side playing in the style he wants and it's paying dividend.

Now, as shown in the four-game losing streak, they can be got at and are vulnerable to the long diagonal in behind the wing-backs but appear to have tightened up slightly in recent games, with two clean sheets from the last three.

That said, I expect an excellent Exeter team to score, who possess firepower throughout the team, but I expect Hudders to get the job done on home soil and continue their march up the league table.

Huddersfield over 6.5 corners (Bet Builder market) @ 11/10

The nature of Huddersfield's 3-5-2 formation lends itself to high-sitting attacking wing-backs, which results in a shedload of corners.

Town lead the league for corners and in particular at home, where they average 9.33 a game (8,5,7,10,17,9). That was skewed by a monumental 17 against Barnsley but they have only failed to pass this line on one occasion this season at the John Smith's, with nine corners last time up against Bristol.

Over 8.5 corners is available at 10/3 too on the same market and I wouldn't put anyone off having a little pocket change on that line too.
