Coventry could be forgiven for letting the rest of the Championship season fall into insignificance. The Sky Blues booked their place in the FA Cup semi-final, where they will face Manchester United, in the most dramatic circumstances with an injury-time comeback at Wolves. However, they still have a chance at making it into the top six, and will want to secure maximum points across Easter weekend in their bid to overhaul both Norwich City and Hull City.

Below you can find my Huddersfield vs Coventry prediction, featuring a couple of betting selections and team news from both camps.

Coventry vs Huddersfield Prediction

  • Coventry to win @ 11/8
  • Ellis Simms and Haji Wright to score @ 11/2

Team News

Huddersfield will be without Sorba Thomas after his red card against Rotherham last time out, while Tom Lees, Yuta Nakayama, Oliver Turton, Rhys Healey, Josh Ruffels and Brodie Spencer are all out with various injuries.

Coventry have the same players available to them as those that beat Wolves before the international break. Jamie Allen is still on his way back from his fractured cheekbone, while Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is out for the remainder of the season with a back issue.

Match Odds

Huddersfield are priced at 2/1 to win this match, giving them an implied win probability of 33%. Coventry are priced at 11/8 to take all three points and a draw is 23/10. Meanwhile if you fancy some goals, BTTS is 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is 4/5.

Coventry to win @ 11/8

Mark Robins has once again transformed the Sky Blues into play-off challengers. They may not have the star quality they did last term in the form of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, but they are a more well-rounded squad now, with quality players across the pitch. Importantly for next season, these players are permanent signings, with the likes of Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching already looking like a solid centre-back pairing.

They aren’t going anywhere soon, and there’s a feeling that next season could be the one for Coventry to return to the Premier League. In the here and now, they have more than enough attacking quality to win this game. They’ve won their last three in all competitions, while relegation-threatened Huddersfield are without a win in their last four. This is a fairly straightforward selection, to back the away side to come away with the points.

Ellis Simms and Haji Wright to score @ 11/2

Coventry’s two star forwards tore Wolves apart in the FA Cup. It’s becoming Ellis Simms’ competition as he notched twice at Molineux, before his American teammate scored the winner in the 100th minute. Simms is now the focal point of the Coventry side, who seem far more functional in the 4-2-3-1 system. It means right-back Milan van Ewijk is pushed up the pitch as the club lacks wide attacking options, but it also gets the best out of record-signing Wright.

He is so much more effective starting on the left, where he can get the ball and run at defenders rather than playing with his back to goal. His unique physical status, his size and speed, make him impossible to stop in full flight and I’m backing the duo that have already scored 29 goals this term between them to both find the net in Yorkshire.
