The Scottish Premiership returns in midweek as third-placed Hearts host Dundee, as the Jam Tarts look to strengthen their grip on that Europa League qualification spot.
Dundee sit in 7th, but are just four points clear of Ross County in 11th, and will need to get points on the board quickly if they are to stay well away from danger. Below we have previewed this match and taken a look at a couple of betting selections.
Hearts have had a relatively busy week in terms of transfers with Andy Halliday joining Motherwell on loan, Michael McGovern joining Livingston and Alex Lowery heading back to Rangers. Steven Naismith has had some positive news however, as forward Alan Forrest has signed a new deal which keeps him at the club until 2026.
Kyle Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson are both away on international duty, while Barrie McKay and Cammy Devlin remain out injured for the home side. For Dundee, Owen Dodgson has joined on loan from Burnley, while it has been confirmed that Tyler French and Shaun Byrne will remain out on loan for the rest of the season.
Hearts are 7/10 to win this match on home soil, while Dundee are priced at 18/5 to take all three points. A draw is available at 13/5, BTTS is 5/6 and over 2.5 goals is 10/11.
Hearts to win @ 7/10
This should be relatively straightforward for Hearts, given what we have seen from the two teams this season. The home side are currently the second best team in Scotland, based on the form table over the last six matches, picking up an impressive 13 points during this run. Naismith’s men also secured a safe passage into the next round of the Scottish Cup with a late win over Spartans FC, while the 2-0 win at Celtic Park has been the standout result of their season.
Second place certainly isn’t out of the question, while Dundee will be looking over their shoulder with worry. They were 2-0 down in just two minutes last time out against Livingston, as their cup dreams faded away in double-quick time, while they have now only won one of their last seven in all competitions. A home win is on the cards here, according to the form book.
Lawrence Shankland to score anytime @ 11/8
Shankland has consistently been linked with a move south of the border over the past two seasons, but it feels like this year he has stepped up a level. The 28-year-old is currently in pole position to win the Tartan Boot, with 13 goals to his name, three clear of Matt O’Riley, James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima.
He’s without a doubt the main man now for Naismith, and although there is a worry of a move to Rangers materialising this month, the fact he missed the recent cup tie is surely just a coincidence. Hearts didn’t need to field their strongest XI for that match, and I fully expect him to come back into the team, and score, against Dundee. The price of 11/8 anytime feels like good value, although it is probably worth double-checking the teamsheet before putting this particular bet on.
