Greece face Denmark on Monday, September 8 (Prime Video, 19:45 BST) in each side’s second outing in World Cup qualifying Group C. Karaiskakis Stadium, the home of Olympiakos, will host the contest.

Greece look to make it two wins from their opening two games, after a 5-1 thrashing of Belarus. Denmark come in aiming to build on a point they will feel should have been three against Scotland. Read on for my Greece vs Denmark predictions.

Team News

How do you build on brilliance? Ivan Jovanovic is likely to be reluctant to shuffle his deck too much after watching his men score five at this ground on Thursday. Considering the Piratiko boasted five different goalscorers in the Belarus bashing, that is almost half a team who have made themselves near-undroppable.

While his name was a central talking point of the frenetic summer transfer window, newly-minted Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund did not start against Scotland in the 0-0 draw.

Former Brentford assistant and current Danish head coach Brian Riemer prefers Kasper Dolberg partnering London-born Mika Biereth in attack. The Monaco forward is one to watch and we could very nearly have been watching him in the Premier League. The 22-year-old was on the books at Fulham and Arsenal as a youth.

One Danish forward with Premier League ties that we could see in action is William Osula. The Newcastle United player's late equaliser looked to have secured a point in his side’s breathless banger against Liverpool, before starlet Rio Ngumoha notched a 100th-minute winner. Riemer might look to hand the exciting Magpie his international debut here.

Greece vs Denmark Stats

  • Greece have scored a total of 16 goals in their last four games, conceding just twice
  • Scotland are the first team in five games to stop Denmark from scoring. Steve Clarke's men are also the last team to keep a clean sheet against Greece

Greece vs Denmark Odds

The hosts are wafer-thin favourites at 8/5, for an implied chance of 38.5%. Denmark are just 3.7% behind them at 15/8. The draw, always worth a perusal in a close-fought affair, is priced at 21/10. Though be advised, Denmark’s Scotland stalemate was the only game either of these sides have drawn in their last 10 outings combined.

Today's Football Fixtures

Both Teams To Score @ 10/11

Denmark might have come up short with 16 shots on the Scotland goal, but this was an atypical display of profligacy from the dampened Dynamite. The attacking talent in this squad usually finds a way.

Football Odds

Admittedly, the absence of club-less Christian Eriksen, the midfielder who provides much of the creative spark for Riemer’s side, is an issue. But a national side that boasts Dolberg, Biereth, Hojlund, Osula, San Diego FC goal threat Anders Dreyer and runaway full backs like Patrick Dorgu and Rasmus Kristensen can be trusted to find the net more often than not.

We know Greece can do the same. Five against Belarus came off the back of four scored against Bulgaria, another four against Slovakia and three against Scotland. This is a team who is flying in front of goal.

First Half Total Goals - Over 1.5 @ 9/4

I am expecting goals in Piraeus and I do not anticipate waiting long for them. The Greeks were off to a flier against Belarus, leading 4-0 by the 36th minute. I do not expect anything as one-sided as that, but I do think the opening 45 minutes will take us over the two-goal threshold.

Denmark are also capable of conjuring a fast start. Against Lithuania in June, their most recent international pre-Scotland, Jovanovic’s men were three goals to the good before the 25th minute.

These sides are facing stronger opposition today. But Denmark are highly likely to have been working on their attacking phases. Greece are on a run where their cup runneth over with the effervescence of ball meeting net. There’s goals in this one and I do not think you’ll have to wait long to see them.
