Granada vs Cadiz Prediction: Nazaries to end winless run in relegation six-pointer

With just three La Liga wins between them this season, Wednesday afternoon's clash (KO, 16:00) represents a crucial opportunity for Granada and Cadiz to get their respective campaigns back on track.

The onus will be particularly on the home side, whose solitary victory came way back in August. Granada are currently in 19th, seven points behind their next opponents who occupy the final survival slot.

Cadiz are on a long winless run themselves, though, after failing to pick up maximum points in any of their last 14 league games.

Team News

Goalkeeper Raul Fernandez missed Granada's final three fixtures of 2023 through injury and the 35-year-old will begin the new year how he ended the last - on the sidelines. There could be better news on Real Madrid loanee Jesus Vallejo, though, who hasn't been ruled out just yet, though 10 games out injured suggests he won't have a big role to play on Thursday, even if he is passed fit.

Alexander Medina has other selection issues to ponder after watching his side fall to a 3-0 home defeat to Sevilla last time out. Albania forward Myrto Uzuni could earn a recall after being demoted to the bench against the Andalusian outfit, with Antonio Puertas potentially dropping out of the starting XI.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be without midfielder Ivan Alejo after the 28-year-old incurred a suspension for a 10th La Liga booking of the season. The Spaniard will be forced to watch on alongside his compatriot Roger Marti, who is still injured.

Gonzalo Escalante and Luis Hernandez could also miss out, with both players missing Cadiz's four fixtures in December.

Match Odds

Granada are 5/4 to win at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes for just the second time this season, while Cadiz are 12/5 to claim their first away victory of the league campaign. These teams have drawn 14 times between them this term (Granada - five, Cadiz - nine), and another stalemate is priced at 21/10.

Both teams have scored in five of Cadiz's last seven La Liga away games, and it's 10/11 for it to happen again on Wednesday.

Granada to win @ 5/4

Picking a winner in this game is a tough call given the travails of both this season, and with only Real Betis (ten) recording more draws than Cadiz in La Liga, the temptation is to side with another stalemate.

However, this is a massive game for Granada, and anything other than a victory would give them a huge mountain to climb in the second half of the campaign. Medina has failed to win any of his four games since taking charge in November, but he did mastermind a creditable draw against Athletic Club in his first home match.

The Nazaries have also scored 12 goals at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes this term - only Sevilla (13), Real Sociedad and Villareal (both 17) have scored more at home outside La Liga's top five.

Granada should also be buoyed by the poor away record of Cadiz, who have drawn four and lost five of their nine games on the road in the league, scoring just six times - only Alaves (four) have found the net on fewer occasions. The home side's superior frontline may just see them come out on top on Wednesday.

Granada to win in Granada vs Cadiz at 5-4

Myrto Uzuni (GRA) to score anytime @ 21/10

Granada have four players on multiple goals in La Liga this season but the only goal scored under Medina's stewardship was by Athletic Club midfielder Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, who put through his own net in a 1-1 draw on December 12.

The last goal scored by a Granada player was on November 24, when Uzuni fired a penalty past Alaves goalkeeper Antonio Sivera in a 3-1 defeat. That was Uzuni's fifth of the campaign, which put him level with Bryan Zaragoza as Granada's top scorer.

Uzuni is now four games without a goal but with Cadiz having conceded in every away game in La Liga, the odds on him to score anytime look generous.
