Girona vs Alaves Prediction: Visitors won’t stop Girona bandwagon

Girona emerging as unlikely title contenders in La Liga this season has been the talk of Spanish football and the Blanquivermells can stay top of the table with victory over Alaves on Monday night (KO, 20:00).

Eyeing what would be their 14th victory of the season, Girona will take some stopping to be denied the spoils at the Estadi Montilivi to kick-start the week.

Girona have been getting their impressive results of late despite a lengthy injury list that includes the likes of Yangel Herrera, Borja Garcia, Joel Roca, Ricard Artero and Toni Villa.

Those five players won’t feature in this one, while the in-from Cristhian Stuani is suspended after hitting his yellow card limit in a famous 4-2 win at Barcelona last time out.

Stuani didn’t start that last game against the Blaugrana and boss Michel is likely to go with the same starting XI that overcame the Catalonian giants.

As for the visitors, Alaves boss Luis Garcia will have to do without the injured Aleksandar Sedlar and Giuliano Simeone, while Abdel Abqar is suspended following his yellow card last time out against Las Palmas.

Garcia is likely to stick with a largely unchanged side, with Nahuel Tenaglia in contention to start in place of the suspended Adqar.

Girona are available at 8/15 to land that 14th league win of the campaign on Monday, while Alaves are 11/2 to come away from the Estadi Montilivi with the three points.

A draw on the night is 3/1, while over 3.5 goals in what could be a high-scoring affair is currently 7/4.

Not only have Girona been impressive with their results but they have been hugely entertaining in their climb to the top of the table.

Often having to battle back from going behind, both teams have scored in all of their last seven games in all competitions.

Alaves were largely disappointing last time out on home soil with a 1-0 defeat to Las Palmas.

A much tougher test awaits on Monday and, while they might be able to get on the scoresheet against a porous Girona defence, the hosts have the firepower to come out on top.

Having already scored eight La Liga goals this season, Artem Dovbyk is enjoying a tremendous campaign so far as Girona’s top goalscorer.

The Ukrainian forward scored the opener last time out at Barcelona and is good value at 5/1 to score the first goal on Monday.

Expect the hosts to come flying out the blocks from the off and Dovbyk, as the focal point of the home attack, can bag another opening goal.
