Getafe vs Real Sociedad Prediction: Basque boys have greater motivation for points

Real Sociedad have not yet given up on snatching fifth spot in La Liga from Athletic Bilbao, although with an eight-point gap to bridge and only seven matches to go, they can’t afford any more slip-ups.

La Real have an all important game in hand on Athletic and they should be hopeful of recording a victory on Sunday at a Getafe side who are struggling to put their best foot forward. The hosts are in mid-table mediocrity and, having won only one of their last seven matches, have little riding on their final seven outings. Read below for my Getafe vs Real Sociedad prediction ahead of this 13:00 kick-off at the Coliseum.

Team News

As was the case in last weekend’s goalless draw at Rayo Vallecano, Getafe will be unable to call upon the services of Jordi Martin, Domingos Duarte and Borja Mayoral.

However, the capital club will have Carles Alena back from suspension and Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood looks a likely starter.

As for Real Sociedad, Brais Mendez and Martin Merquelanz are missing through injury while Carlos Fernandez faces a late fitness test.

The Basque outfit must also cope without suspended duo Igor Zubeldia and Martin Zubimendi, which means Takefusa Kubo and Benat Turrientes could come into the team.

Match Odds

Real Sociedad are 23/20  to complete a La Liga double over Getafe and bolster their European qualification aspirations while Getafe are 11/4 to spring a surprise.

The draw, which has been the result of four of Getafe’s last nine league matches, is available at 21/10 and bookmakers are expecting a low-scoring encounter with under 1.5 goals an 11/8 chance.

It was 4-3 to Real Sociedad in the reverse fixture in September and both teams to score is a 6/5 chance, while Oyarzabal is 5/1 favourite to open the scoring.

Real Sociedad to win @ 23/20

With motivation at a maximum, everything points to a Real Sociedad victory. The Basque outfit have responded well to their 3-2 defeat at Sevilla at the beginning of March, taking 10 points from their last four La Liga outings.

La Real have won four of their last six away league games, which includes back-to-back road trips at Granada and Alaves, and they should have little to fear with Getafe’s form clearly tailing off.

The home side have had a solid season but ninth looks the best they can hope for and that has been evident in their recent performances with motivation clearly on the decline.

Getafe have won only two of their last 10 league outings and they have failed to score in consecutive games against Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano, suggesting that one may be enough for the visitors to land the spoils.

Mikel Oyarzabal anytime goalscorer @ 21/10

Mikel Oyarzabal is Real Sociedad’s leading scorer this season with 11 goals and he was on target last time out in the 2-2 draw with Almeria.

Oyarzabal was also on the scoresheet in the 4-3 victory over Getafe earlier in the season, which means he has scored in his last two meetings with these rivals.

Being on penalty duty is another string to the Spanish international’s bow and, if Sociedad are to prevail, then he looks most likely to inflict the damage.
