Getafe vs Granada Prediction: Azulones to return to winning ways

The last game of Matchweek 23 in La Liga sees relegation-threatened Granada travel to the Spanish capital on Monday (KO, 20:00) to face Getafe, who are also in poor form.

Azulones are winless in three games and suffered their sixth league defeat of the season last time out in a 3-2 loss at Osasuna.

The Nasrids, meanwhile, continue to flounder in the bottom three, with Alexander Medina’s men winning just two league games all season, and they find themselves five points from safety.

Discipline issues in recent weeks have plagued Jose Bordalas' team selections, with Luis Milla, Damian Suarez and Jose Angel Carmona all absent from Monday night’s game due to suspension.

Ilaix Moriba will also be missing as he represents his country at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Mauro Arambarri remains a long-term injury absentee.

However, some good news for Bordalas sees Juanmi Latasa and Jaime Mata return from respective suspensions, while Arsenal-linked Borja Mayoral is expected to continue to lead the line.

Medina will also be missing a number of players due to various bookings and injuries being accrued, with Lucas Boye, Jesus Vallejo, Martin Hongla and Raul Fernandez all watching from the sidelines.

Kamil Piatkowski is once again available for selection after he missed their 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last time out, and could be reinserted back into the Granada defence.

Getafe are the favourites to claim the three points at the Estadio Coliseum at 4/5, whereas Granada can be backed 18/5 to grab the shock victory.

The draw is priced at 12/5, while Mayoral is the favourite to grab the game’s first goal at 7/2.

Getafe have lost three of their last four games, including a Copa del Rey exit to surprise strugglers Sevilla as well as a home defeat to Rayo Vallecano, and these results have seen the Madrid side slip into mid-table obscurity.

A further downfall could see Bordelas' men drop into a relegation battle, although that would be extremely unlikely given their current 11-point gap to the bottom three.

Getafe will be desperate to get back to winning ways and will be expected to do so against a Granada side that has suffered a forgettable return to the Spanish top flight.

The Southern Spain side have picked up just two victories all season and only avoid propping up the La Liga table due to Almeria’s abject campaign which has seen them yet to win.

Granada have picked up just a single point away from the Nuevo Los Carmenes, and further turmoil is expected on Monday night.

This is not expected to be a high-scoring affair, given that four of the last five meetings with Granada have seen two goals or less.

Couple this with Granada netting just eight times on the road in La Liga, and you get a recipe for an encounter lacking goalmouth action.
