Germany vs Portugal Bet Builder Tips: 7/1 Allianz effort? Tah very much

Germany and Portugal haven't faced each other in international football since June 2021, when the former won 4-2 at Euro 2020, but they renew rivalries on Wednesday (20:00, Prime Video) in their Uefa Nations League semi-final at the Allianz Arena.
Below are my German vs Portugal Bet Builder Tips ahead of this match-up in Munich between two of Europe's powerhouse footballing nations.

Double Chance - Germany or Draw
Germany suffered disappointment in their home Euros last summer, losing 2-1 to Spain after extra time in the quarter-finals.
However, they've responded well, going unbeaten in eight games (W5, 3D) since.
Julian Nagelsmann's side were drawn against Italy in their Nations League quarter-final earlier this year, and after beating Gli Azzurri 2-1 in Milan, they played out a 3-3 thriller in Dortmund, securing their place in the semi-finals.
Portugal were even more disappointing at Euro 2024, despite exiting at the same stage as the home nation, and only losing to France on penalties. But they lost their final group game against Georgia, and were taken to penalties by Slovenia in the last 16 after a goalless draw over 120 minutes.
A third successive game without a goal followed in the quarters as France won 5-3 on penalties, and while A Selecao began their Nations League campaign with three straight victories over Croatia, Scotland and Poland, two wins from their last five games doesn't make for great reading, especially when you consider they drew to Scotland (and Croatia) in that run before losing 1-0 to Denmark in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
At home, Germany are favourites to win on Wednesday, and while I'm not convinced enough to back a home victory, I'm happy to add the hosts in on the double chance to kick off this Bet Builder, with some higher-priced picks to follow.
Both Teams to Score - Yes
Portugal were as solid as a rock in their Euros qualifying campaign in 2023, conceding just twice in 10 games, but Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Iceland, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovakia were their five opponents in Group J.
In the lead up to Euro 2024, Roberto Martinez's charges kept just one clean sheet in five friendlies, and were breached by the Czech Republic and Georgia in Group F at the tournament.
They head into Wednesday's match having kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches, although they have scored in six of those, with BTTS - Yes landing six times post-Euros.
Germany have been a little more solid, keeping three clean sheets in eight outings, but they're without one in their last three and have conceded multiple goals twice in that period, including three in the second leg of their Nations League tie against Italy in March.
Both nations possess some fearsome attackers in their ranks, so I think we'll see a few goals in this contests, certainly one from either side.
Germany vs Portugal Stats
- Germany are unbeaten in eight games (W5, D3) post-Euro 2024
- BTTS - Yes has landed in six of Portugal's last eight matches and Germany's last three
- Portugal have shot 12+ times in seven of their last eight contests
- Jonathan Tah (GER) saw a header saved in his last international appearance (vs Italy in March)
Portugal Total Shots - Over 11.5
Portugal have recorded 12+ shots in seven of their last eight matches, only failing to hit that number in their 1-0 first-leg defeat to Denmark in March.
Germany, meanwhile, have conceded 12+ shots in two of their last three games, with Hungary mustering 16 in their final Nations League group game last November before a two-legged play-off tie with Italy, who tried their luck 13 times at San Siro before mustering just nine in the reverse fixture at Signal Iduna Park.
I'm not overly convinced by Germany's defence, and if Marc-Andre ter Stegen returns from injury and is instantly restored as their number one shot-stopper, I'm sure Portugal will look to take advantage of a goalkeeper who has drawn widespread criticism from FC Barcelona supporters for his form in Spain over the last couple of years.
Martinez has the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Rafael Leao at his disposal, none of whom are shy to shoot, so over 11.5 shots looks like a realistic line to land here.
Jonathan Tah (GER) Total Shots - 1+
An opposition centre-back has recorded at least one shot in Portugal's last four games, so backing Germany defender Jonathan Tah, who shot twice in his country's first Nations League group game against Hungary and once in the second leg of their quarter-final tie against Italy, could be a smart move.
The 6ft 5in powerhouse, who last week signed a four-year deal with Bayern Munich ahead of the expiration of his contract at Bayer Leverkusen this month, averaged 0.7 shots per game in the 2024/25 Bundesliga and 0.5 per game in this season's Champions League.
Ahead of his midweek meeting with A Selecao, the 29-year-old should be encouraged by the shooting statistics of defenders who have recently faced Portugal.
Last time out, Denmark defender Joachim Andersen saw a header in the first half of extra time saved by Portuguese shot-stopper Diogo Costa, and three days prior, his centre-back partner, Jannik Vestergaard, saw a first-half effort fly wide.
In a 1-1 draw against Croatia on November 18, all three of Vatreni's centre-backs, Josip Sutalo, Duje Caleta-Car and Josko Gvardiol, who scored, registered a shot at goal, while Polish centre-back Kamil Piatkowski saw a long-range effort kept out three days prior.
In fact, only two of Portugal's last 10 games have failed to see an opposing centre-back fail to shoot - both against Scotland.
