Genoa vs Sassuolo

Sassuolo breathed major life into their bid for Serie A survival last weekend with an unlikely win over champions Inter Milan. The Neroverdi have three games left in which to save their season, and entered the weekend within three points of a safe position, albeit with an inferior goal difference.

They find themselves in a five-way scrap to avoid the two remaining trapdoor spots alongside already condemned Salernitana. They travel to face Genoa on Sunday (14:00) looking to strengthen their own position.

Genoa vs Sassuolo Betting Tips

  • Armand Lauriente anytime goalscorer @ 16/5

Genoa vs Sassuolo Odds

Genoa have home advantage and are favourites to gain all three points at 6/5. They have been a mixed bag on home soil, with six wins, six draws and five losses this season.

Sassuolo's record shows just two away-day wins in 17 Serie A attempts and they are priced at 11/5 to notch a priceless win now, while the draw trades at 5/2 for this clash at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

Both teams have scored in four of the last six league games contested by each of these sides, and that outcome here is priced at 4/6. After scoring the only goal against Inter last time, Armand Lauriente is priced at 9/1 to score the opening goal again.

Team News

Former AC Milan forward Alberto Gilardino will have been delighted to leave the San Siro with a 3-3 draw against his old club last weekend, though his side twice led and required a late own-goal to salvage a point.

Albert Gudmundsson missed that game with an illness but should be available once more this weekend. Mattia Bani (muscle), Ruslan Malinovskyi (thigh) and Vitinha (muscle) are all likely to miss out.

Domenico Berardi (knee) is a long-term absentee for Sassuolo, while Gregoire Defrel (thigh) and Samu Castillejo (knee) are doubts for Sunday's game.

Sassuolo to win @ 11/5

It will surely go down as something of an anomaly, but last weekend's 1-0 win at the Mapei Stadium means Sassuolo have completed the Serie A double over champions Inter this season – the only two reverses suffered by I Nerazzurri in 36 games.

That unlikely success is the only victory recorded by Sassuolo in their last six, though they have only two losses in that same sequence.

They have scored in five of their last six games, including three goals in their last two matches on the road. Crucially, they are without an away win since November's 4-3 victory at Empoli.

Fiorentina, Milan, Atalanta, Monza and Lazio are the only sides to have beaten Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on league duty but the hosts have little in the way of motivation now.

Last weekend, Sassuolo limited Inter to a single shot on target in 90 minutes. If they can find a similar defensive block now, and continue their recent scoring trend on the road, they might plunder another massive three points.

Manager Davide Ballardini will be hoping that in-form French forward Armand Lauriente can strike again. The 25-year-old has netted four goals in four games since early April, helping yield five points for his side.

Previous to that, he hadn't scored since September's 4-2 home win over Juventus. It is his most prolific spell in a Sassuolo shirt and he can continue it by scoring against a Genoa side with just one clean sheet in their last six and only two in seven at home.
