France vs Luxembourg Prediction: Les Bleus to romp home

France welcome Luxembourg to the Stade Saint-Symphorien on Wednesday night (20:00, Premier Sports 2) for an international friendly that will help Les Bleus prepare for Euro 2024.

Once again, Didier Deschamps' men head into a major tournament as one of the favourites and that is because of the quality in depth they have. They will want to send a warning to their rivals in these next two friendlies. Read on for my France vs Luxembourg prediction, featuring match odds and team news.

France vs Luxembourg Odds

France are overwhelming favourites at 1/50 to win here, giving them a 98% chance of victory. Luxembourg are valued at 50/1, which gives them an implied probability of just 2%. The draw can be backed at 16/1 (5.9%).

Both teams to score is priced at 5/2 and over 2.5 goals is on offer at 1/5.

Team News

We could see midfielder N'Golo Kante make his first appearance for France since June 2022 after earning a recall for his performances at Al-Ittihad. Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is the only uncapped player in Deschamps' squad and he will be out to impress in the next two friendlies so that he can push for a start at the Euros.

It is likely that we will see Real Madrid stars Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy and Aurelien Tchouameni rested over the week. The former two because of their participation in the Champions League triumph on Saturday, and the latter to recover from his foot injury that should heal in time for the summer spectacle in Germany.

Luxembourg will not have midfield stalwart Leandro Barreiro available this month but a familiar name is in the squad in Sebastien Thill, who made headlines for scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League a few years ago. Their all-time leading goalscorer, Gerson Rodrigues, will be looking to add to his tally of 21 goals on the international stage.

France's talisman Kylian Mbappe heads into this international break with joy now that his club future has been sorted. It was announced on Monday that he had joined Real Madrid from PSG and that will put an extra spring into his step over the next few weeks.

He will be looked to by Deschamps and his teammates to be the inspiration for Les Bleus this summer as they look to make amends for their round of 16 exit at the hands of Switzerland at Euro 2020.

With France the clear favourites in this clash, for obvious reasons, value is tricky to find here. That is why I have gone for the price boost for Mbappe to score first. I expect the hosts to run riot against Luxembourg and there should be plenty of goals on offer. And with Mbappe carrying their biggest goal threat, I think he is the most likely player to open proceedings in Longeville-les-Metz.

Over 3.5 France goals @ 8/11

As I have already mentioned, I think if France go all-in for a severe workout here, then they can rack up quite a few goals to help themselves get into shape for the Euros. Their frightening squad depth could see Deschamps make several changes to the team sheet and still the side would have lots of quality on offer.

I'm backing Les Bleus to score at least four goals on Wednesday because with the greatest respect, Luxembourg are not going to be able to match them out on the pitch.

With the Euros just over a week away and this being one of the last chances for the home crowd to send their squad off, the players will want to put on a show. They will also be looking to put on a convincing performance for themselves, too. Strong performances in the next two friendlies could work in their favour and have an impact on Deschamps.

While we have an idea of what his preferred starting XI will look like, the friendlies this week gives fringe players a chance to play their way into his thinking. And with a major tournament just around the corner, goals and assists will go a long way for those pushing for a lot of game time this summer.
