Valencia vs Getafe - Valencia to win @ 1/1

Valencia and Getafe meet on Saturday in a fixture that has become La Liga’s weirdest grudge match over the past decade. An explosive Copa del Rey quarter-final between the sides in 2019 was largely the catalyst for the bad blood which has certainly lingered, with six red cards shown in the last four meetings at Mestalla.

Pepe Bordalas has been the constant fixture in this rivalry, leaving Getafe in 2021 for a short spell as Valencia boss, before returning to the Coliseum to guide the South Madrid club to safety at the end of the 2023/24 season.

His current side have lost on their last three visits to this ground, and there’s not much reason to think they are going to get on any better this weekend. While Getafe won seven of their opening 12 league games in 2025 to all but secure safety, they’ve lost their last four matches and appear to be drifting towards the end of the season now.

Their current tally of 39 points may already be enough to keep them in the top flight, but they could do with picking up another result just to make sure of that, but they may find it tough going at Mestalla, with regulars Dakonam Djene, Christantus Uche and Mauro Arambarri all suspended.

Only bottom club Real Valladolid have scored fewer times in La Liga this term than Getafe, and it’s hard to see where their goals are going to come from, not least given the absence of Arambarri who has been their unlikely top scorer with nine goals from midfield.

Valencia also started the calendar year in trouble, but quickly found form under their new boss Carlos Corberan. However, unlike Getafe, Los Che are still going strong as we head into the final fortnight of the season, with their unbeaten run now standing at nine matches.

Crucially, Corberan’s side has managed to get a disillusioned fanbase on board, and Mestalla has become something of a fortress for Valencia. They’ve won six of their last eight at home in La Liga, and are yet to taste defeat home or away against any side outside the top three under Corberan.

They are in good shape on the selection front heading into this game, and I’m backing Valencia to win at 1/1.

La Liga Odds

Girona vs Villarreal - Cristhian Stuani to score anytime @ 8/5

One of the most important fixtures this weekend in Spain takes place at the Estadi Montilivi. Girona are battling for safety, but they can expect few favours from a Villarreal side that is pushing hard for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Girona fans enjoyed the season of their lives last year, as Michel’s men secured a stunning third-place finish, but they’ve been a tough watch this term. While there was no shortage of summer arrivals at the Catalan club, there’s perhaps only one or two of those that have even come close to being judged as a success.

Michel has tried many different approaches, but nothing has seemed to work, and in recent weeks he has gone back to basics, by bringing experienced duo Portu and Cristhian Stuani into the starting lineup.

Before their relegation six-pointer at Leganes at the end of last month, each player had made just one start in La Liga this term, but they combined for Girona’s goal in a 1-1 draw, and then both started again on Monday in a vital 1-0 victory over Mallorca, with Stuani scoring for the third game in a row.

That result ended an 11-game winless run and it was a much-improved performance too which suggests they should take a bit of confidence into this tricky game against a strong Villarreal side.

While they are having a good season overall, the Yellow Submarine do still have some defensive flaws. They’ve only kept one away clean sheet all season and they rank in the bottom eight for goals conceded. The visitors will also be forced into a defensive reshuffle here given their right-back Kiko Femenia has picked up an injury.

That backline will need to find a way of stopping one of the oldest, yet most productive strikers in the league. Stuani is in his eighth season as a Girona player and had already reached legendary status, long before this current rescue act, having racked up a century of goals in his first five years at the club.

The 38-year-old is currently providing the kind of leadership that had been lacking for much of this season, in addition to still being by far Girona’s most clinical finisher.

His nine goals in La Liga this term have come at a rate of just under one every 90 minutes, and he currently appears to be on a one-man mission to drag this side to safety. Given his current form, I’m backing Cristhian Stuani to score anytime at 8/5 here.

Real Betis vs Osasuna - Both teams to score - yes @ 4/5

Real Betis reached their first ever European final, with Abde Ez scoring in extra time on Thursday to seal a 4-3 victory over Fiorentina in the second leg of their Conference League last-four tie.

Excitement is already building in the green-and-white half of Seville ahead of their date with Chelsea in Poland at the end of the month, but Betis have four huge league games to play first as they target a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.

That will be a test for Manuel Pellegrini as he looks to keep players fresh, particularly in this game just 72 hours on from a long night in Florence. Betis do have real depth in attacking areas though, so they should still be able to cause trouble for a leaky Osasuna defence.

On current form, Antony should start again, despite playing 120 minutes in the Conference League. The Manchester United loanee is having a stunning spell in Seville and scored a brilliant free kick on Thursday night, just four days after another screamer that sealed a vital 91st-minute victory for his team at Espanyol in La Liga.

Isco may be rested, but Giovani Lo Celso is a very capable deputy in the attacking midfield role and he also scored a fabulous solo goal last weekend. With their main striker Cucho Hernandez ineligible in Europe, Betis will also have fresh legs up front.

Therefore, Osasuna may not necessarily be able to fully capitalise on any fatigue in the home camp, but they still look capable of getting on the scoresheet against a Real Betis defence that is fallible.

Osasuna netted twice away to another of the Champions League hopefuls only last weekend, in a 4-2 defeat against Villarreal. For once, Ante Budimir wasn’t one of their scorers, but the Croatian remains by far their biggest goal threat with 18 goals this season in La Liga, leaving him behind only Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe in the Pichichi race.

With the likes of Aimar Oroz and Bryan Zaragoza in support, Osasuna do have quality in attacking areas, and they should be competitive in this match given the quick turnaround for their opponents.

I’m backing both teams to score at 4/5, a winning bet in 10 of the last 11 Betis games in all competitions.
