Arsenal vs Real Madrid Odds

Arsenal haven’t won any of their last three outings and that is a slight concern as they head into this home clash against Real Madrid. In their last Champions League game they were in control and 2-0 up against Bayern Munich, but then they capitulated to lose the game 3-2 in Germany.

They have also lost at home to Lyon in this competition and I’m concerned that they don’t look as sharp as they did last term, when they went on to win this competition. Renee Slegers has taken the pressure off her team after the UWCL win, telling reporters:

"It's not something we talk about [expectations after winning a UWCL]. Of course, through the UWCL win and really good performances last year, expectations rise. I don't think the expectations from the outside are affecting us."

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Arsenal beat Real Madrid 3-0 in last year's Champions League quarter-final second leg
  • Alessia Russo has scored four league goals this season

The Wednesday night clash with Real Madrid brings back memories of the thrilling quarter-final they shared last term, in which Arsenal lost 2-0 away before recording a completing a remarkable turnaround with a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.

Dramatic wins over Lyon and Barcelona followed to crown Arsenal European champions, but they are still trying to work out how to find that form. So why am I backing them to win this one? Well, despite picking up seven UWCL points in three games, Real Madrid were hammered 4-0 by rivals Barcelona at the weekend and there is still a clear gap between them and the truly elite teams.

They also rescued a point against Paris FC in their last Champions League game with a 98th-minute equaliser, and they sit fourth in the Primera Division. There are holes in this team, as Slegers also gently alluded to:

"I think Real Madrid's games might be a little bit more open this year, so that's something that we have to prepare for and something we want to organise in a good way," she said.

"You see that their key players play in a little bit different roles this year compared to last year, so that's also something to look out for.”

That means this game should be full of goals, with our Price Boost needing four or more, while Alessia Russo remains a dangerous threat having already notched four in the WSL. I think this price is a good one, as we gamble on Arsenal bouncing back in style.
