Football Bet of the Day: Will the Tractor Boys bounce back?

We’ve got a vast amount of football action coming our way on Tuesday as the Champions League returns in earnest, while we also have a full set of fixtures in the Championship across this midweek.
Our Football Bet of the Day comes from the second tier, where Ipswich Town are back in action at Portman Road, as they host Charlton Athletic (19:45, Sky Sports+). Read on for Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, October 21
- Ipswich Town to beat Charlton Athletic with a -1 handicap @ 7/4

Ipswich saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end on Friday night as they were beaten 2-1 by high-flying Middlesbrough. However, Kieran McKenna’s men will want to bounce back with immediate effect as they host Nathan Jones’ impressive Charlton Athletic outfit at Portman Road.
After beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1, the Addicks are up to ninth in the league and it has been an impressive start for the newly-promoted League 1 team. Jones is certainly a wily operator but the recent fixtures have been kind to them on paper. Charlton have played the bottom four in their last five games, winning three of those, but their only defeat during this time came as they faced eighth-placed Preston North End on the road.
I’m not saying Charlton are a bad team, far from it, I just don’t think they have faced the true might of the Championship in recent weeks. They’ve not won a game against a team currently in the top half of the table this season and I believe Portman Road is arguably the toughest place to go midweek, given the vast array of depth that McKenna has available to him.

Despite losing, the Tractor Boys created an xG of 2.15 away at the Riverside and their home form is impressive. Last time out in front of their own fans they beat Norwich City 3-1 to end their 16-year wait for a derby win, and their home form in general has been strong as they’ve picked up 11 points from five.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Charlton haven't beaten a top-half team yet this season
- Ipswich have won 11 points at home this season
- They've scored the joint-most home goals, level with Coventry City (13)
Only Middlesbrough (13) have won more home points in the second tier, while Ipswich’s eye-catching 13 goals scored at home is level with leader Coventry City - who scored seven in one game at the CBS Arena this season. That attacking strength has perhaps gone under the radar, especially when you consider the rotation options the former Manchester United coach has at his disposal.
George Hirst is the leading man in the number nine role but Chuba Akpom, Sammie Szmodics, Jadon Philogene, Jack Clarke, Sindre Walle Egeli and Kasey McAteer are all fighting it out for the starting spots behind him. That’s a serious amount of talent, and with five substitutions available, McKenna can chuck elite talent on with 20 minutes to go in an attempt to win the game.
I think Charlton should stay up this season but dreaming of anything beyond that is perhaps unrealistic. They could get a bit of a reality check on Tuesday night, so my Football Bet of the Day is backing Ipswich to win with a -1 handicap at 7/4.
