Football Bet of the Day: Shot-shy Pisa could struggle again

The joy that greeted Pisa’s promotion back to Serie A last season has been short-lived as they have found life back in the Italian top flight a bit of a struggle. Yet to grab a win in any of their eight league outings this term, their struggles have been exacerbated by the fact that they haven’t scored a goal in a home match.
Visitors Lazio should be confident they will be able to head back to Rome having collected three points, as they have avoided defeat in their last four matches, recording clean sheets on the road against Genoa and Atalanta. Read on for my Football Bet of the Day.

- Lazio to beat Pisa @ 11/10

Pisa will not be surprised that life has been quite tough for them this season, and Alberto Gilardino’s side will be hopeful that last week’s 2-2 draw against AC Milan will be the start of a recovery.
They were denied a victory at the San Siro by a goal from Zachary Athekame in injury time, which gave them a fourth draw of the campaign, but it is the lack of goals that will be their manager’s chief concern, particularly on their own patch.

Pisa have yet to net in any of their home games - they have lost 1-0 to both Roma and Udinese while they were held to draws against Fiorentina and Hellas Verona - and it is not as if they are creating a host of chances.
They have yet to have a home expected-goals (xG) figure above 0.7 and they face a team who have found their feet on the road after a shaky start.
The Eagles started the season with away defeats to Como and Sassuolo, venues at which a team with top-four ambitions would expect to win, but they have got their act together by keeping clean sheets in three of their last four outings, including trips to Genoa and Atalanta.

Their 3-0 win in Genoa, in which Matteo Cancellieri, Valentin Castellanos and Mattia Zaccagni were all on target, was particularly impressive and should be used as a benchmark for the rest of the campaign.
Maurizio Sarri’s side were also boosted by a 1-0 win over Juventus, which was enough to see that Old Lady manager Igor Tudor would lose his job, and that extended the Roman outfit’s unbeaten run to four Serie A matches.
This will be only the third league meeting between the two sides and the first since 1991, but Lazio kept two clean sheets in those meetings and the modern-day outfit looks like they have their defence sorted too.
It is almost impossible to have much confidence in Pisa’s attack despite their performance in Milan, so the visitors should be backed to seal what would be their second away win of the campaign.
