Football Bet of the Day: Value for goals in League 2

We’ve got a lot of football being served up on Thursday as the Europa League and the Conference League take place, while we also have an interesting League 2 clash between Grimsby Town and Tranmere Rovers (Sky Sports Football, 20:00).

This fourth tier clash leans in favour of Grimsby given their strong home form, but I think the real value lies in the goals market. Tranmere have found some decent form and have only lost one of their last five, but they sit 16th after too many draws of late.

The Mariners by comparison are winless in their last four League 2 outings, and so I’m not going to jump at the 4/6 price on the home side to take all three points in this one. David Artell would love his side to break into the play-offs after a strong start to the campaign but they have lost their way of late.

Tranmere have drawn more games this season than any other side in the league, so I would lean towards a draw in the match result market - but for the Football Bet of the Day I am simply going to back both teams to score at a reasonable price of 4/5. 

Rovers have looked strong going forward all year, with just five sides scoring more than their 28 goals. However they’ve conceded 26, which puts them firmly in the bottom half for that statistic and is why they aren’t higher up the table. 

They rank joint-top in terms of BTTS success rate this season, as 13 of their 17 League 2 fixtures have finished with both teams on the scoresheet. Their recent form is ever better regarding this statistic, as 10 of their last 11 outings in all competitions have seen goals at both ends. 

Ten of Grimsby’s 17 games have also ended BTTS - Yes, with four of their last five outings seeing a winner in this market, so I think there is good reason to be bullish about the BTTS market in this clash.
