Football Bet of the Day: Paraguay’s title race goes to the wire

Conor has been taking charge of the Football Bet of the Day column recently, and he’s been doing a very good job, landing three winners in a row earlier in the week. However, you’ll have to settle for me this Sunday and so of course, I’m heading to Paraguay.
An untapped gem of a football nation, the Clausura is about to come to a close. Check out my selection down below.
Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, November 9
- Club Guarani to beat Libertad @ 13/10
*Odds correct at time of publication
Club Guarani host Libertad tonight (21:30 GMT), in what should be a fascinating encounter. To give you the lay of the land in the Paraguayan Primera Division right now, there is a title tussle going on between Guarani and Cerro Porteno.
Cerro Porteno secured a massive win over Guarani last time out to take the lead in the race for the title based on their head-to-head record. That’s right, the two are level on 39 points from 19 games so far and with just three to play, every point counts.
As Guarani host a struggling Libertad outfit, Cerro Pertano travel to third-placed Trinidense, and although the hosts can’t get involved in the title race, they will be desperate to fend off the chasing pack and hold onto that third spot.
They are a decent outfit, while Guarani will fancy their chances of getting a home win against a Libertad team that has severely underperformed in the Clausura. Let’s not forget, Libertad won the Apertura earlier in 2025, but their attack includes 42-year-old Oscar Cardoza and their ageing squad has been dreadful this term.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Libertad are winless in their last eight games
- Guarani are level on points at the top of the table
They’ve picked up just 20 points from 19 games and sit 10th out of 12, and they are fortunate that relegation is worked out by an averaging system rather than the standard league table. They will be desperate for the season to end so that they can rebuild over the winter, as their form isn’t improving.
Libertad have won just four Clausura matches, and none of their last eight in all competitions, so I have to go with the form book here. Guarani have been fantastic all season and will be reeling after the loss to Cerro Porteno - but it’s not over yet. There’s a real chance that they could be back in top spot when Monday morning rolls around, but they have to secure all three points here.
I think they will bounce back and I also think the odds are more than generous, given I’d expect them to be odds on at home. Club Guarani to beat Libertad is Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day at 13/10.
