Football bet of the day

Sunday’s football action is plentiful, but for our Football Bet of the Day I’m heading to France for the evening kick-off between Lyon and Nantes (19:45 GMT).

I think there’s value to be had backing against the home side, and here is why…

Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, November 30

I have some concerns about Olympique Lyonnais right now, and their early title tilt has fallen off a cliff as they have tumbled down to eighth in the Ligue 1 table. They are currently on a four-match winless run in the league, and while a 6-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv should raise spirits, the Israeli outfit are really poor, and sit second-bottom the Europa League table.

Lyon vs Nantes Odds

Lyon have lost two of their last three home games in the league and if they fail to win on Sunday night, it will mark their longest winless run since that disastrous start to the 2023/24 campaign. Paulo Fonseca is seemingly struggling to nail down a solid defence, and the fact they have conceded six in their last three Ligue 1 encounters at Groupama Stadium will give Nantes plenty of encouragement.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Lyon haven't won any of their last four league games
  • Lyon have lost two of their last three at home
  • Nantes have only lost one away match (1-0 to Nice)

Now, Luis Castro’s visitors are not a strong outfit this season, hence the big price on backing them to avoid defeat, and back-to-back 1-1 draws have them 15th in the table. They only have 11 points on the board but have shown they can be competitive of late and they’ve got five points from their last five outings.

Interestingly, their home form has been what has held them back this season. They are the worst home team in Ligue 1, picking up just five home points from seven matches, so they will be relieved this game comes on the road.

They’ve conceded one goal or fewer in five of their six away league games this season, and that has led them to pick up six points from six - with only Nice beating them on their travels. I can see why Lyon are the strong favourites here, but I’m just not buying it, especially given Nantes can be quite a stubborn outfit.

As a result, I think there is massive value in backing Nantes or Draw - Double Chance, and so that is Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day.
