Football Bet of the Day: Spain target Nations League glory

Friday’s football action comes from all across Europe, but it is the Women’s Nations League final that has really caught my attention.
Spain take on Germany at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion, Kaiserslautern (19:30 GMT) - and this is the first leg of a two-legged final. Read on for my Football Bet of the Day.

I think Spain are the best women’s team in the world right now, and I’m backing them to win the Nations League over the course of the next week. They travel to Germany for the first leg on Friday night and new head coach Sonia Bermudez had a perfect start to life in the dugout with a thumping semi-final win over Sweden.
Germany Women vs Spain Women Odds
Over two legs, they won 5-0, with Alexia Putellas and Claudia Pina both scoring twice in a 4-0 first-leg win. Putellas added her 40th international goal in the second leg away from home, as Spain booked their place in this final.
Bermudez is leading a new era in Spain with Mapi Leon and Jenni Hermoso back in the squad, with Leon back in contention having threatened to resign from international duty back in 2022. It’s a sign of further healing after the turmultuous reigns of Jorge Vilda and Montse Tome, - and the good feeling around the place is only set to continue on the pitch.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Spain have won 11 of their last 12 games
- Germany lost 1-0 to Spain in their Euro 2025 semi-final
"Communication with Sonia has been the key so far," Barcelona's Laia Aleixandri said this week. "It's the start of a new era. She understands us really well. You can tell she knows what it's like to be on the other side, which is important. We have a great rapport with her."
Results are ultimately all that matters and there are calls for the squad to be refreshed given a few key players are now on the wrong side of 30, but that can wait for the time being.
Germany were made to work far harder as they overcame France 3-2 over two legs in their semi-final as they beat their old rivals yet again in a major competition. France had more possession, more shots on target, and more big chances (three to zero), in the second leg but couldn’t find the net - but I don’t think Spain will be quite as wasteful.
I think this should be a cracking first leg on Friday night with plenty of goals, but I will back the away side to take the win due to their individual quality, with BTTS boosting our odds to 3/1.
