Football bet of the day

Friday sees the return of top-flight club football after an international break which saw England book their place at the 2026 World Cup.

In search of some value for Friday’s Football Bet of the Day, I’ve turned my attention to France and Ligue 1, where PSG are back in action at home to Strasbourg (20:00 BST).

Football Bet of the Day - Friday, October 17

  • Joaquin Panichelli to score anytime @ 11/4

PSG are the heavy 1/4 favourites to win this game and all their star names should return from their various international fixtures around the world. They’ve been pretty faultless at home this term, winning three from three at Parc des Princes, scoring five without conceding in the process.

However, this game against Strasbourg looks to be their biggest test so far, especially given we are coming off the back of an international break. Luis Enrique will not be best pleased that this one has been scheduled for Friday night, given the outstanding array of international talent in his squad.

It means there may be slight rotation, especially in defence as Willian Pacho played a full 90 minutes for Ecuador in Mexico in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. He won’t have much preparation time at all, while Achraf Hakimi will hot foot it back from Morocco after featuring on Tuesday night.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • PSG are yet to concede at home this season
  • Strasbourg have won five out of seven, scoring 14 goals in the process
  • Joaquin Panichelli is Ligue 1's joint-top scorer with five goals in seven

PSG haven’t conceded at home yet, but they have failed to win two of their last three in the league, losing at Marseille and drawing with Lille. Anyway, we don’t care about the result of this game, but I do think PSG could be susceptible to conceding a goal or two, especially given the strength of the opposition.

Strasbourg have been absolutely sensational so far this season, and currently sit third have won five of their seven matches. They are just one point behind PSG right now, but it has been their goalscoring exploits that have caught the eye. Le Racing have 14 goals in seven games so far, finding the net in every game they’ve played this season. They hit five past Angers in their last outing and look to be a real attacking threat.

They’ve qualified for the Europa Conference League and won their first game in that competition as well, as Liam Rosenior continues to impress in the dugout. I think there’s certainly a chance they get something here, and they should score a goal, which brings me to our Football Bet of the Day.

Joaquin Panichelli is their leading marksman, having scored five goals in seven Ligue 1 games so far, averaging a goal every 106 minutes so far. That puts him top of the scoring charts with Monaco’s Ansu Fati, and I think he can continue this fine goalscoring form at a massive price against PSG.
