Football Bet of the Day: Can Geordies halt misfiring PSG?

Wednesday’s football focuses on the final round of fixtures in the Champions League league phase, with every team in the competition kicking off at 20:00 GMT. There’s a lot to get your head around, with one of the key clashes coming between PSG and Newcastle United (TNT Sports 3) as both teams look for the three points required to secure a top-eight finish.
Our Football Bet of the Day sees us head to the French capital, with hope for Eddie Howe’s men.
Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, January 28
- Double Chance - Newcastle to win or draw vs PSG @ 6/4

Yeah, yeah, I know - PSG are an incredible football team with one of the best managers on the planet and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the European champions defend their crown in 2025/26.
However, the team we saw run riot in last season’s competition, the outfit that hammered Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, haven’t looked that dominant in recent weeks. They sit sixth in the Champions League table, having picked up 13 points in seven matches so far - the same as Newcastle, Chelsea, Barcelona, Sporting, Man City, Atletico Madrid and Atalanta.
It means there is plenty of traffic behind them ready to pounce if they do slip up, and remember, the top-eight finishers in the Champions League qualify directly for the last 16, while the 16 teams beneath them face another play-off round.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- PSG have won just one of their last four UCL games
- Newcastle have scored 16 goals in seven UCL matches so far
So, this test against Newcastle does have something riding on it - and the Magpies will hope to continue their impressive form on the continent. The 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League was disappointing, but Unai Emery’s men are chasing the title and could beat any team home or away this term.
Howe’s side hammered PSV 3-0 at home in their last Champions League game, and although they have been disappointed by the dropped points in the last two league games, they’ve proven themselves to be a competitive outfit at home and abroad.
They’ve managed to score 16 goals in seven UCL outings, and that threat could cause PSG problems, given they are showing signs of frailty lately. The European champions have only won one of their last four Champions League games, and that was a 5-3 home success over a dreadful Tottenham Hotspur side.
They’ve lost to Bayern Munich and Sporting in that time, while they couldn’t break down Athletic Bilbao as their grip on a top-eight spot loosened. Throw in a recent shock cup exit to rivals Paris FC and the fact they only edged past relegation candidates Auxerre in their last game, and I think we could be in for an upset in Parc des Princes.
