Football Bet of the Day: Celta goalscorer could strike again

On Thursday, we’ve got a whole host of European action coming our way as the second legs of the Uefa Europa League and Uefa Conference League playoff matches take place. 

For our Football Bet of the Day, we are heading to Spain where Celta Vigo are in full control of their tie against PAOK.

Celta Vigo won away in Greece 2-1, and that has put them in a wonderful position to make it to the last 16. They’ve also got a fantastic record against Greek sides in general, winning their last five European games against them, scoring at least two goals per game in each victory. 

There’s a lot to like about this fixture from a home perspective, and the Spanish side should go on to win here. PAOK have never won a European game in Spain, losing six and drawing two of their eight trips there, and I expect that to continue here. 

If you fancy more stats, Celta Vigo have progressed from nine of their 10 ties in major European competition when winning the first leg in the knockout rounds and PAOK have conceded 17 goals in their last six away Europa League matches - at an average of almost three goals a game.

That gives me pretty strong belief that Celta will win this game comfortably, and there are a lot of goals on the table for them - should they attack the Greeks from the off. I think the hosts will go for the kill early on, and I fancy them to score first. 

If they do get the first goal, Borja Inglesias looks to be the most likely scorer. He doesn’t often play 90 minutes, and usually gets withdrawn at around the hour mark, so there’s no point in backing him to score anytime at reduced odds - instead let’s take the leap and back him to find the net first. 

He is Celta’s top scorer this season with 14 goals in 34 games in all competitions, and he has 10 in 23 La Liga fixtures. Now 33, he is being used fairly sparingly by Claudio Giraldez, but he should start here and he has scored three in his last five La Liga appearances. 

He’ll want to add to his two goals in Europe this term, and against a PAOK outfit that is leaky on the road, I think he will have some joy. My Football Bet of the Day for Thursday is Borja Inglesias to score first at 10/3.
