Football Bet of the Day: Dons to seize their chance to move into third

Two teams hoping to gain promotion from League 2 this season are Walsall and Milton Keynes Dons, with the pair meeting at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Monday (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Football). The visitors are eight points clear of the Saddlers in fifth, while the home team do have a game in hand on their opponents.
It is from this clash that I have picked out my Football Bet of the Day, which you can check out below.
Football Bet of the Day - Monday, February 23
- Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under 1.5 - MK Dons & Over @ 2/1
*Odds correct at time of publication
Walsall were 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture at Stadium MK back in August but they are winless in six league appearances heading into this clash. They are 11/5 to prevail here.
Four of those six games have ended in a draw, with the stalemate also on offer at 11/5.
MK Dons are 13/10 to come away with the three points and they have won five of their previous seven fixtures in League 2.
I think an away win is where the value lies in this contest but for my Bet of the Day I am combining this selection with over 1.5 goals to generate a 2/1 price.
The Dons are in good shape at this stage of the season and they should be confident in their abilities to be able to take down Walsall, who are struggling to put three points on the board right now.
Over the past six matches, MK Dons rank top of the form table with four victories and two draws. They are demonstrating their quality on a consistent basis and this sets them up nicely for Monday night as they eye up the third automatic promotion spot - which they will move into with a win.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- MK Dons have won 5 of their last 7 league games
- At least 2 goals have been scored in each of Walsall's previous 4 outings in L2
Dons' boss Paul Warne is making no mistake in showing off the attacking quality within his ranks. His side have scored more goals than anyone else in the division with 60 and forward Callum Paterson has provided 14 of them.
Over 1.5 goals has been a successful bet in five of the visitors' last eight outings in the fourth tier and against a team who are trying to keep themselves in the race for promotion, I am expecting a decent return for goals in the West Midlands.
Momentum is certainly with the visiting side and while Walsall are in desperate need of getting back to winning ways, I cannot see their fortunes changing up against MK Dons in their current mood.
With the third automatic promotion spot firmly in their sights, I do not see Warne's men slipping up in WS1. Walsall have things to figure out but the Dons won't give them a second to think here and if the visitors are at their peak level, they could well end up winning this clash rather comfortably.
