Football Bet of the Day: Paraguayan strugglers set to lose again

We’ve got European action coming our way from across the continent on Thursday as Europa League and Conference League matches take place, but my attention turns to South America and my favourite overlooked football nation in the entire world - Paraguay.
Below you can find my Football Bet of the Day as we look to secure a winner on Thursday night.
Football Bet of the Day - Thursday, February 19
- Trinidense (A) to beat San Lorenzo @ 11/8

San Lorenzo vs Trinidense Odds
The Paraguayan Primera Division is back for 2026 and five games into the season, the table is starting to take shape. If you aren’t familiar with Paraguayan football, the top flight has two ‘seasons’ per calendar year - the Apertura and the Clausura.
We are now five games into the 2026 Apertura season, and with only 12 teams in the top tier - every game really matters. My self-adopted Paraguayan team, Trinidense, finished fourth in both 2025 seasons, and disappointingly fell away towards the end of the year with four draws in a row costing them third spot.
I want to see them try and crack that top three this time around and they should be there or thereabouts again this term, despite failing to win their first three games of the 2026 campaign. Jose Arrua has been in charge for five years so there’s a lovely level of consistency from season to season, which cannot be said for several other teams in Paraguay.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Newly-promoted San Lorenzo have lost five out of five
- Trinidense finished fourth last season and have won their last two
Libertad were recently the dominant force in the country and won the 2025 Apertura but have hit upon harder times, leaving the door open at the top of the division. Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked here, back to our Football Bet of the Day.
Trinidense travel to face San Lorenzo on Thursday night (21:30 GMT), and the hosts have had a rough start to life back in the Primera Division. They spent a few years out of the top flight but gained promotion back to the top table as they finished second last term, but life back amongst the elite has been tough.
So far, they have lost five out of five, scoring just three goals and conceding 12 as they struggle to get to grips with the step up in competition. Despite being back on home soil, I can’t see this losing run ending as they host one of the better sides in the division, and Trinidense will fancy their chances of showing up and earning the three points.
At 11/8, I think an away win offers superb value.
