Football Bet of the Day: Portugal offers value on Friday

We’ve got plenty of football matches from across Europe coming our way on Friday night, and one in particular has caught my eye as offering terrific value.
We are heading to the sunny shores of Portugal where Rio Ave host AVS (20:45 BST) - and below you can find my Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Friday, April 17
- Rio Ave to beat AVS to nil @ 8/5

If you don’t know much about the state of play in the top flight of Portuguese football, let me fill you in. Porto are top of the league and are set to tussle it out with Sporting for the title, but our interest for Friday’s Football Bet of the Day comes at the bottom.
AVS are a shambles and sit bottom of the league, but the story goes slightly deeper than that. AVS is a company, who owned Vilafranquense, a club based near Lisbon in the south of Portugal. However, at the end of the 2022/23 season, UD Vilafranquense (the club) and Vilafranquense SAD (the company), went their separate ways.
SAD relocated the club to Aves in the north of the country, 360km from Lisbon and created a new club, AVS Futebol SAD, to give them their full name. Think Wimbledon moving to Milton Keynes.
They finished 16th in the top flight last season and won the relegation play-offs but this season has been brutal, playing in front of an average of around 1,000 fans. They have won just one league game out of 29, amassing just 12 points in total and relegation is now a formality.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- AVS have scored 19 goals in 29 games
- AVS are bottom of the league
- They have failed to score in six of their last seven
A trip to Rio Ave is the last thing they want right now, especially given that Rio Ave’s form has completely turned around and they look like a really strong outfit. They were lingering near the relegation zone but they have climbed the table to 11th having won four of their last five games.
AVS, meanwhile, have only scored 19 goals in 29 matches this season, failing to score in six of their last seven fixtures. I think we should see a comfortable home win to nil on Friday night in Portugal, and that is my Football Bet of the Day.
