Football bet of the day

European action takes centre stage on Thursday but there are a couple of domestic games in the EFL taking place. One of them comes from League 1 as Peterborough United host bottom-of-the-table Port Vale at the Weston Homes Stadium (19:45 BST).

The Valiants are 15 points adrift from safety, giving themselves a lot of work to do in their final six games. My Football Bet of the Day comes from this clash, and you can read all about it below.

Peterborough vs Port Vale Odds

Peterborough are an 8/11 bet to snap their four-game winless streak in the third tier. Two of their last four outings have been draws, with the stalemate here priced at 11/4.

Port Vale have won two of their previous five fixtures in League 1 and they are 7/2 to collect the three points.

The hosts won the reverse fixture 1-0, while at least one team has failed to score in each of Port Vale's four most recent league games. BTTS - No here is valued at 11/10.

Peterborough are going through another difficult spell. It's not as bad as the one they went through at the beginning of the season but they have just one win from their previous nine matches in this division.

Luke Williams and his players are not out of the woods in the fight for survival, with just four points separating them from Exeter City in 21st, so their current form is troubling heading into the final month of the campaign.

Port Vale have given themselves an almighty task to accomplish in terms of a great escape. The Valiants need 15 points (as things stand) to stay up, while hoping the teams above them continue to drop points.

To put it bluntly, they are in need of a miracle.

But they all have to start somewhere, so why not in Cambridgeshire? Boss Jon Brady was able to keep Northampton Town clear of relegation danger in 2023/24 after he got them promoted from League 2 the previous year.

His appointment in January instilled some belief amongst the fan base but he has only managed just four league victories, the same number achieved by his predecessor Darren Moore.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Port Vale have won 2 of their last 5 league games and they are 2 games unbeaten heading into Thursday
  • Peterborough are 4 matches without a win in League 1 - losing 2 of their previous 3

Brady's side do come into Thursday's clash with two wins from five, though. It's not as glamorous as their three-game winning streak in September, but it has given the Valiants a chance when not so long ago it seemed like they were dead and buried.

Vale picked up a draw on Tuesday against Barnsley in what was another one of their games in hand. That was at home, while this away match is expected to be tougher.

Posh have recorded some big victories at home this season but no wins in four is leaving them vulnerable ahead of this crunch clash. Port Vale made it two consecutive clean sheets in the week, so the visitors should be confident ahead of their trip to PE2.

For that reason, I am backing the Valiants to come away with something on Thursday, using the Double Chance market.
