Football bet of the day

With a full round of Premier League fixtures this midweek, I’ve looked lower down the divisions in search of value.

We’ve got a game in League 2 that has caught my eye for Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day, and you can find out my selection down below.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, February 11

Ian Holloway hit the headlines recently after his captain Ollie Clarke was suspended at short notice, but his side have been winning a good amount of games recently, taking them up to third in the League 2 table.

After a five-year stint in the fourth tier, Swindon will be desperate to capitalise on this strong campaign to date and gain automatic promotion. If they can hold on to third that will be the case, and they’ve managed to bounce back from three consecutive defeats with three consecutive wins.

They beat Barrow 3-1, Harrogate 1-0 and then hammered Oldham Athletic 3-0 with goals from James Scanlon, Fletcher Holman and Aaron Drinan. With 16 games to go, Holloway’s side are in a battle to get over the line this term, with plenty of pressure coming from the likes of Notts County beneath them.

Swindon vs Newport Odds

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Swindon sit third and have won three in a row
  • Newport haven't scored in their last two matches and are 23rd in League 2

Having said that, they should fancy themselves at home to a Newport County outfit that look destined for the drop. They appointed former Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs as their manager in November, and although he believes the performances are improving, the results don’t scream survival.

They drew 0-0 with Grimsby Town last time out but lost 4-1 and 3-0 prior to that and they sit 23rd in the league, having only picked up 21 points from 29 outings so far. That is worrying and the lack of quality in the squad is a concern, especially when you compare it to high-flying Swindon.

No goals in their last two outings and only 29 goals this term lead me to believe that the home side should win this game comfortably to nil. At 6/4, it’s my Football Bet of the Day.
